Beach resort art, hand-painted for villas and island hotels
iHomeArt supplies original hand-painted beach resort art to resorts, island hotels and villa clusters: seascapes, coastal landscapes and tropical botanicals from some 1,300 catalogue works, or the resort's own bay, reef and coastline painted from its photographs. Art is specified once per villa type, painted in tranches as each phase of villas hands over, and shipped to the island by the best route for the address, rolled to travel lightest or ready to hang.

How do we make beach resort art feel like our island, not any island?
Paint the place itself: the resort's bay, reef, coastline and garden, painted from your own photographs, or found among the catalogue's seascapes and tropical works and adjusted to your colours.
Guests travel a long way to stand on this particular shore, and the turquoise wave from their last hotel tells them they could be anywhere. Send photographs of what makes the resort itself, from a drone shot of the lagoon to the view off a villa deck or the frangipani by the pool, and each is painted by hand on canvas at the size of its wall (see which photos work best).
Where no photograph exists yet, start from the catalogue's seascapes, coastal landscapes and tropical botanicals, and have the water, the sand and the sky repainted to match yours.

TA#941 The beach from above
A drone photo of your beach or lagoon becomes an aerial painting: the bands of colour in the shallows, the line of foam, the umbrellas.

How do we specify art for resort villas, type by type?
Write one art set for each villa type, listing every position with its size and finish; the set is quoted once and repeated for every villa of that type.
A resort is drawn as a handful of villa types, so specify the art the way the architect drew the villas. Most types need two to five positions:
| Position | What usually works | How to size it |
|---|---|---|
| Bed wall | A horizontal seascape or coastline, calm enough to wake up to | Roughly 60–70% of the bed's width |
| Living pavilion | The villa's largest piece, horizontal or panoramic, seen from the deck | The solid wall facing the openings |
| Bathroom or dressing area | A small vertical botanical or a single wave | The wall beside the vanity, clear of splash |
| Entrance or day bed | A narrow vertical: one palm, one strip of shoreline | The panel between two doors |
Send the villa-type drawings or the art page of the FF&E schedule and we price each set per villa. Or send photos of a finished villa and we shortlist catalogue works for every position.
A city hotel with rooms on floors is better served by hotel guest-room programmes, and a single private villa by villas and whole-house projects.
Can every villa feel individual and still belong to one resort?
Yes: hold four things steady in every villa, the palette, the frame, the painting manner and the size per position, and let the subject change from villa to villa.
Guests walk past each other's villas and compare them in reviews, so the same painting in two neighbouring villas gets noticed. With some 1,300 catalogue works, the Vary route (a related series painted from one piece) and your own photographs, every villa gets its own picture without breaking the resort's look.
-
The same in every villa
- Palette
- The resort's sand, water and timber colours, mixed to your samples
- Frame
- One timber or one finish, ideally the joinery's own
- Manner
- One way of painting: loose brushwork, or knife-laid texture
- Size
- Fixed for each position in each villa type
-
Different in each villa
- Subject
- Another cove, another reef creature, another hour of the day
- Crop
- The same coastline seen closer in one villa and wider in the next
- Namesake
- Villas named after local fish, birds or bays can each hang their own
Keep a hanging key
Record which code hangs in which villa; when a piece needs replacing, the key tells us exactly what to paint.
Pairs for family villas
A villa with two bedrooms or twin beds can take a pair: two related canvases painted from one composition.
Which palettes suit coastal hotel art in strong daylight?
Clear mid-blues, teals and sand with real contrast hold their own in bright rooms, very pale washes tend to disappear against white walls and glare, and every piece looks best hung out of direct sun.
A tropical villa is bright, white-walled and open to a real sea just beyond the glass. A painting competes with that light, so choose colours with enough body to read: turquoise, cobalt and teal against sand and white, or deep greens for the botanicals. Start from the teal and blue collections, and have the colours mixed to your own fabric and stone samples where the scheme calls for it.
Where to hang it. Choose walls that face away from the openings or sit deep under the roof, so the morning and late sun never fall on the canvas; as with any painting, direct sun is best avoided. A piece hung between two bright windows reads as a dark shape, while the same piece on the wall facing them is lit by them.
How large should resort artwork be in pool villas and open-sided lobbies?
Larger than in a city hotel: size it for the farthest point it is seen from, the pool deck or the buggy drop-off, and paint it as one canvas or a set of two or three panels.
A pool villa's living pavilion is seen from the deck and the water, an open-sided lobby from the arrival drive. A canvas that suits a bedroom looks like a postcard from fifteen metres. Measure the solid wall, tell us where it is seen from, and we suggest the scale; any work can be redrawn to any size, panoramic formats included.
Very large canvases, and every sculpted or plaster piece, travel stretched rather than rolled, so they are the bulkiest part of a resort shipment: order them early enough to leave room for freight. For one or two oversized pieces on their own, see lobby statement art.
What art goes in the spa, the restaurant and the beach club?
The same coastal story told at different volumes: quiet texture in the spa, coastal scenes and sunsets in the restaurant, the boldest colour at the beach club.
Spa. Sand, cream and sage in sculpted texture: shell and leaf forms, a white tide on sand (more on spas and wellness centres).
Restaurant. Coastal landscapes and sunset seascapes, hung horizontally along the banquette; see art for restaurants and bars.
Beach club and pool bar. Under cover and well back from the sand, this is the place for colour: vibrant sunsets, surfers and crowded beaches.
Covered walkways. Tall verticals in one manner, so the walk to the villas reads as a sequence.
One order can cover all of it, and the spa, the restaurant and the villas count together towards volume pricing.
Can the art hang in our mock-up villa first?
Yes: order the mock-up villa's pieces as a small first order, judge them on site in real light with the owner and the operator, and they become the standard every later villa is painted against.
Most resort projects build one mock-up villa before the rest. Hang its paintings there and the owner, the operator and the designer see the art with the furniture, the timber and the light off the water, which no screen can show. You follow each piece in photos or video while it is painted, so a change is made on the easel, not after the canvas has crossed the ocean.
If the mock-up is not built yet, a piece hung in the sales gallery or the site office does the same job.
How do we order beach resort art in tranches as villas hand over?
Order one villa type at a time, timed to each phase's handover, and repeat the same sets for the later tranches; nothing is held in stock, so next year's sets are painted from the same codes as this year's.
Construction on an island moves, so tie each art order to a phase rather than to the opening date. Send the phase dates with the enquiry, and each quote states its own delivery date.
- Mock-up villaOne piece for each position, painted, shipped and approved on site.
- Villa sets quotedA price per set and per piece for each villa type, with the code or photo for every position fixed.
- First trancheThe first phase of villas, ordered as its handover date firms up and painted with your approval at each stage.
- Later tranchesThe same sets again for the next phases, painted against the mock-up. If a phase slips, its order simply waits.
- Public areasArrival, spa, restaurant and beach club, ordered to hang before soft opening.
- After openingA replacement or a new villa block, painted from the hanging key and the same codes, years later if need be.
How does art reach an island hotel, and should it travel rolled?
We find the best route for the address and the size of each tranche, express courier for most and air or sea freight for large orders, and rolled canvas is the lightest and cheapest way across the water.
Tell us where the art should land: the resort, your site office, a forwarder at the gateway airport or port, or the warehouse consolidating your FF&E. We arrange the shipping there and confirm the cost with you before dispatch. A tranche of rolled tubes usually travels by DHL, FedEx or UPS express; a large order may go by air or sea freight, which costs less and takes longer, so weigh the price against the date the walls must be dressed.
| Finish | On the way to the island | When it arrives |
|---|---|---|
| Rolled | Light tubes: the cheapest to send, and easy to carry on a boat or a small plane | Your joiner stretches and frames it, in the same timber as the villa doors if you like |
| Stretched | Flat boxes the size of the canvas, so more volume on every transfer | Hangs straight from the box, frameless |
| Framed | The largest and heaviest boxes; big pieces may need freight | Ready on the day, with hooks; gold, silver, black, white or wood |
Sculpted surf, plaster and heavy knife-laid works (every TA code in the catalogue, and a few other thickly painted pieces) travel stretched or framed only, unless you agree to a thinner texture that can roll. So a villa run in flat brushwork rolls, and the arrival piece in plaster goes in a box.

Beach resort art: questions resort teams ask
Can hand-painted canvases hang in an open-air pavilion?
Canvas paintings are interior pieces, so in an open-sided pavilion choose the solid wall deepest under the roof, out of direct sun and driving rain, and give the most exposed walls to carved timber or stone. Air-conditioned villas, enclosed lobbies and the spa suit paintings best.
Should a remote resort keep spare paintings in the store room?
It is worth it. A spare of each villa-type piece, kept rolled or boxed in the store, means a damaged or stained painting is replaced that afternoon rather than after a new one is painted and shipped. Spares are painted with the run, from the same codes, and count towards volume pricing.
Can you paint the resort before it is finished, from the architect's renders?
Yes. A render of the over-water villas, the jetty at sunset or the arrival court can be painted by hand on canvas for the sales gallery or the pre-opening office. Send the render file and say what to keep and what to leave out; see paintings from your own image.
We are refurbishing an open resort in batches. Can the art change villa by villa?
Yes. When villas come out of inventory in batches during the low season, order the art batch by batch from the same codes, each batch with its own delivery date, so every block reopens finished. The first refurbished villa serves as the mock-up.
Do you work with our interior designer or FF&E purchasing agent?
Yes, with whoever holds the art package: the owner, the operator's design team, the interior designer or the purchasing agent. Send the schedule or spec pages and we quote against them; the art can ship to the agent's consolidator and travel with the rest of the FF&E.
How is art for a whole resort priced?
Per piece, by canvas size, surface and finish: sculpted texture takes more paint and time than flat brushwork, and rolled costs least. Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces and counts across the whole resort, villas and public areas together. Shipping is quoted for each tranche and confirmed with you before it leaves.
What happens if a painting arrives damaged on the island?
It is rare: careful packing and trusted carriers keep our return rate under 0.01%. If it happens, send photos of the piece and the packaging; we take the claim up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund. A spare in the store room keeps the villa dressed meanwhile.
