About this painting

Late sun sits in a gap between two low mauve-grey ridges, and its light spills across dark blue water as a silver-white path broken into hundreds of short flicks of paint.

The sea fills the lower half and is the most worked area: navy and cobalt dragged horizontally, with knife-laid highlights that glitter like light on moving water. Above, the sky shifts from clear blue to peach near the horizon, crossed by diagonal wisps of white cloud, while a darker grey-violet cloud presses in at the top left corner and stops the scene drifting off the edge.
