About this painting

Small periwinkle-blue flowers rise up the middle of the canvas on hair-thin dark stems, their petals blurring into white haze as though seen through fog. Two main clusters hold the composition, one high in the centre and one lower to the left, with loose petals drifting off both.

The only warm note is a patch of ochre and khaki earth at the lower right, with a faint pink blush in the haze on the left. Flecks of dark paint are spattered across the bottom. The surface is flat and soft, thin dry-brushed layers of white over pale blue, with clear sky breaking through at upper left.
