Wall art in Saudi Arabia: hand-painted canvases from majlis to lobby
iHomeArt paints wall art for Saudi Arabia by hand and to order: original canvases for majlis rooms, villas, offices and hotels in Riyadh, Jeddah and across the Kingdom, painted to the width of your wall and the colours of your room. In a Saudi house the paintings go first where guests are received, so this guide starts with the majlis, then covers size, subjects, palette and ordering.

Which rooms in a Saudi home need wall art first?
The rooms where guests are received: the men's majlis, the women's majlis and the maqlat, then the double-height entrance and the family hall, planned as one set rather than bought piece by piece.
A Saudi villa is built around hospitality, and its ground floor shows it. Riyadh listings describe a men's majlis, a women's majlis, a maqlat for formal dining, a women's hall and a family hall. One North Riyadh villa listed in August 2026 has separate entrances for men and women, two men's majlis and a women's gathering space on the ground floor, and a heritage majlis in the basement. Every one of those rooms has a wall that guests face, so the art for a Saudi house is a set of several large pieces, not a single purchase.
Plan it the way the house is used. Give the guest side one palette, so the men's majlis, the maqlat and the entrance read as one house, and let the women's majlis have a mood of its own: one Hittin villa gave its ladies' majlis a cast-gypsum floral feature wall of its own. In many homes the women of the family oversee how the majlis is decorated, so the brief often starts with them. The rooms one by one are on Saudi villas and majlis.

How big should wall art be for a majlis in Saudi Arabia?
Wide rather than tall: about 2 to 3 metres of canvas above the seating in a large majlis, 150 to 200 cm in the smaller majlis of a new community villa, and a tall vertical only where the hall rises through two floors.
Start with the seating, because it decides where a painting can hang. Seating runs round the walls of a modern Saudi majlis with the centre left open, and one Gulf specification for a large majlis gives sofa backs of about 121 cm under a ceiling of at least 4.2 m. The wall above the guests is long and fairly low, so wide horizontals, panoramics and runs of two or three panels suit it far better than tall formats.
Then the house. Saudi villa rules allow a net height of 2.70 to 3.50 m on each floor, and premium new villas in Riyadh's Sedra are marketed with ceilings up to 3.2 m. Established villas have long reception walls: living rooms measured in Jeddah homes ran up to 13 m long. New community villas are tighter; one Sedra plan has a majlis of nearly 26 m², a wall of roughly five metres.
| Wall | What sets the size | A canvas that holds it |
|---|---|---|
| Majlis in a large villa | Long walls, seating on every side | 2–3 m wide, or two or three panels |
| Majlis in a new community villa | A wall of about 5 m | 150–200 cm wide |
| Maqlat | A long table and long walls | Panoramic, about two-thirds of the table's length |
| Double-height entrance or stair void | Two floors of height | A vertical of 2 m or more, or a stacked pair |
| Bedroom or apartment living room | Ceilings of 2.7–3 m | 100–150 cm, or a pair |
Hang a majlis painting for seated eyes, a little lower than in a hall. Every iHomeArt canvas is painted to the dimensions you give us; sizes room by room, in centimetres and inches, are in the Saudi size guide.
Are paintings of people and animals acceptable in Saudi homes?
In private rooms that is the household's own choice; for the majlis, an office reception or a gift, landscape, geometry, calligraphy and abstraction suit every guest who walks in.
Families differ, so ask before you choose. Many Saudi families keep paintings of people and animals out of the majlis and hang calligraphy, a verse or a line of poetry there instead, for those who enter and sit. Some families follow it closely; others hang horses, camels or portraits in their own rooms, and such paintings are sold openly in Saudi shops. Living rooms studied in Jeddah held paintings of historical and natural subjects and floral panels.
So choose by the room's audience. For a men's majlis, a company reception or a gift, landscape, desert and sea, geometry, calligraphy and heritage architecture are welcome everywhere; figures and animals belong in private rooms, when the household wants them. Nudity has no place in a Saudi brief: The Art Newspaper reported in 2015 that depicting naked women is forbidden in the Kingdom. More on subjects and palettes in taste and styles in Saudi Arabia.

Does wall art for Riyadh differ from wall art for Jeddah?
In register, yes: Riyadh leans Najdi, with sand, cream, terracotta and gold and restrained geometry, or a classical emerald, blue and gold; Jeddah leans Hijazi and coastal, with coral stone, carved lattice, sea blues and braver colour.
Riyadh's motif is the Najdi triangle, which AD Middle East found 'everywhere' in the city, from walls to metro seats. Its high-end homes have gone two ways, as one Riyadh design firm puts it. The contemporary school keeps the base calm: one designer starts large rooms in beige and grey so that the art can stand out, and a Hittin villa runs from sand-hued beige and cream to terracotta with touches of gold. The classical school goes richer, in the deep blue, emerald green, gold and warm red that another Riyadh firm lists. A textured canvas in sand and gold belongs in the first house; an emerald abstract veined with gold in the second.
Jeddah looks to the Red Sea and to Hijazi heritage: coral stone, carved wooden screens and coloured glass, as in the architect Sami Angawi's house in Ash Shati. Its hotels take colour further, and the lobby of Assila swapped muted tones for oranges, teals and greens. On the Corniche or in Obhur, seascapes and coastal blues sit naturally in that light. Each city has its own page: wall art in Riyadh and wall art in Jeddah.

Can you have Arabic calligraphy, a heritage pattern or your own photograph painted?
Yes: send us the image, whether a calligrapher's artwork, a Sadu or Al-Qatt pattern, a photograph of your farm or your company's logo, and we tell you the size, format and finish it will paint best at.
Calligraphy belongs on Saudi walls; Riyadh villa designers use it on feature walls, ceilings, domes and in the majlis. Because a verse is read as well as seen, start from a calligrapher's own artwork, used with their permission, so the letter shapes are right before any paint goes on. Heritage patterns translate well too: the red and orange geometry of Bedouin Al Sadu weaving, or Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, the geometric wall painting of Asir, traditionally made by women in the rooms where guests are received.
The same route works for a photograph of your family's old house, your farm, the view from your villa or your company's logo. Send it on WhatsApp with the wall size; we tell you how it will translate to canvas, suggest the size and finish, and paint it by hand once you are happy. You need to own the image or have permission to use it, and a design can be kept exclusive to you if you ask before we start. More on paintings from your own image.
Can Saudi shops supply a hand-painted canvas the size of your wall?
Up to about 2 metres, often yes; beyond that, in a palette matched to your majlis or as a set that belongs together, you are commissioning, and a gallery remains the place for the Saudi artist's work you collect.
Saudi Arabia sells wall art at every level. Furniture chains and online marketplaces carry printed and factory-made canvases in standard sizes; décor shops and gallery-stores in Riyadh and Jeddah add hand-painted pieces, a few made to order; galleries and art weeks sell the work of named Saudi and regional artists. The shelves stop at scale: hand-painted stock rarely goes much beyond 2 metres.
So choose by the wall. A guest bedroom or an apartment can usually be furnished from a shop; a majlis wall that needs 2.5 metres of canvas, a maqlat painting in the exact sand of the curtains, or eight pieces in one hand is a commission, whoever paints it. For the piece you collect, go to the source: Riyadh's art season runs from Noor Riyadh in November and Misk Art Week in December to Art Week Riyadh in April, and the first Art Week, in 2025, brought together 32 galleries. Many buyers combine the two: one Saudi artist's work for the wall visitors remember, and canvases made to order in the same palette for the rest. Every kind of seller is on where to buy art in Saudi Arabia.
How are hotels and offices in Saudi Arabia choosing their art?
Through the interior designer or an art consultancy, around a local story of Najdi textiles, Saudi landscapes and Saudi artists: named artists for the centrepieces, painted canvases for the rooms, corridors and floors in between.
The volume is in hospitality: Saudi Arabia's hotel construction pipeline reached 387 projects and 105,648 rooms by mid-2026, and the briefs lean local. W Riyadh opened in July 2026 with a six-metre tapestry by the Saudi artist Abdulnasser Gharem in its lobby and Najdi textiles and Al Sadu patterns through its interiors; Bab Samhan in Diriyah hangs local artwork against sand-hued walls. Offices follow the same thread. EY's regional headquarters at KAFD spans 14 floors with traditional Saudi touches, a 9,500 m² flexible workspace nearby themes each floor on a Saudi landscape, and the Social Development Bank's Art Bank has hung works by Saudi artists in its Riyadh headquarters.
That is where iHomeArt fits. The centrepiece of a lobby usually goes to a named artist; the guestroom runs, corridors, meeting rooms and floor-by-floor series go to a studio that can paint many canvases in one hand, to the designer's drawings, sizes and palette. If you are the designer, the FF&E buyer or the fit-out contractor, we paint room type by room type, with one sample first if you want it, and label each canvas by room or floor with a packing list. More on Saudi hotels and restaurants and offices and institutions.
What does ordering from iHomeArt look like from Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam?
A conversation on WhatsApp: send the wall, approve each stage from photographs, and choose rolled, stretched or framed by the size of the canvas and the route it travels.
Start with a photo of the wall, its width and the ceiling height. We suggest a size and a shortlist from some 1,300 designs, or design a piece for your project, and your quote usually arrives within one business day. You then see your own canvas in photographs or video at every stage, and the next stage starts only when you approve; in a market where, as the head of the Visual Arts Commission has said, people are often very private about collecting, the whole conversation can happen on your phone.
Size decides the finish. Heavily textured or plaster work always travels stretched or framed. Larger orders may go by air or sea freight, on the route we find best for your address, with the shipping cost confirmed before dispatch. In a new villa, choose the art while the finishes go in, so the canvases arrive with the furniture.
Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.
Saudi Arabia wall art FAQs
How long does a painting take to reach Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam?
About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar or any other address in the Kingdom. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.
What painting suits Saudi National Day or a corporate gift?
A landmark or a landscape. An architect writing in Sayidaty suggests paintings of the Kingdom's landmarks for the majlis at National Day, and desert, AlUla sandstone or the Red Sea suit any recipient. Leave the flag out of the design: it carries the shahada and is not normally put on everyday items. Avoid sensual figures in a gift.
What is the largest painting you can make for a Saudi villa?
Send us a photo of the wall with its width, the ceiling height and the route the piece takes to reach the room, through doors and up stairs.
Can the painting match my majlis upholstery and curtains?
Yes. Textiles do much of the work in a Saudi majlis, as one Saudi architect puts it, so the painting is often mixed to them. Send photographs of the fabric, stone or paint taken in daylight, ideally beside a sheet of white paper; you see the colours on the canvas in the stage photographs and approve them before the next stage starts.
Can I return a painting ordered from Saudi Arabia?
Every piece is painted to order and you approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it ships, so finished pieces are not returnable; Saudi e-commerce rules likewise exclude custom-made goods from the seven-day cancellation right unless they are defective. Transit damage is rare, under 0.01% of pieces; if it happens, send us photos and we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund.
How do I pay for a painting from Saudi Arabia?
Half upfront against a proforma invoice, so painting can start, and the other half once you approve the photograph of the finished piece, before it ships. Each order is priced for its sizes and finishes, and your quote usually arrives within one business day of your message on WhatsApp, through the quote form or by email.
Is one painting for an apartment or a compound villa too small an order?
Not at all. The minimum order is one piece, so a single canvas for a Riyadh apartment or a compound villa is welcome, and it can double as a sample if you plan more. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces, for a whole villa, an office floor or a run of hotel rooms ordered together.
