Where can you buy paintings in Riyadh, district by district?

In two gallery quarters, the Olaya and Takhassusi corridor in the centre and the JAX District in Diriyah, and in painting shops spread across the city by speciality, from heritage pieces to custom orders.

Riyadh's galleries sit in two quarters. The older runs along the Olaya, Takhassusi and Al-Urubah roads, around Al Mousa Centre, a 1980s shopping mall reborn as an arts hub with about 20 galleries. It faces the King Fahd National Library on Olaya Street, and most of its galleries and studios open in the evening, often from about 5 to 10 pm. The newer quarter is the JAX District in Diriyah, home to SAMoCA, Diriyah Art Futures and several commercial galleries.

Painting shops are a separate trade, and a 2026 Riyadh directory maps them by speciality: nature scenes and budget pieces in Al-Sulaymaniyah, heritage and traditional work on Al-Uruba Road, and custom paintings on Takhassusi Street and in Al-Nakheel.

Choose the stop by the wall, and for a majlis or a whole villa bring the measurements and a photo of the room, because size is where most shelves stop. More on the capital in wall art in Riyadh.

Where can you buy art in Jeddah, Dammam and Khobar?

In Jeddah, start in Al Rawdah, home to several leading galleries, then Al Balad and Hayy Jameel; in Dammam and Khobar galleries are fewer, so a large original is usually painted to order.

Several of Jeddah's leading commercial galleries sit in Al Rawdah and on Serafi Mega Mall Street, with a second ring of art centres and studios in Al Sharafiyah, Al Nuzhah and Al Andalus. In Al Balad, the historic district, a painter's studio-gallery shows portraits among the restored houses, and Hayy Jameel, the arts complex in Al Muhammadiyah, puts galleries, makers' studios and resident shops under one roof.

If your brief includes a verse or an Islamic pattern, visit the House of Islamic Arts in Jeddah Park first: the Kingdom's first museum solely for Islamic art shows Qur'anic manuscripts and calligraphy across six galleries, a good way to settle on a script before briefing a calligrapher. In Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran the galleries are fewer and much of the ready-made wall art comes from branches of the national home chains, so a large original is usually a canvas painted to the wall and sent by express courier. Which kind of seller suits your wall: shop, gallery, online or made to order?

Shops and online sellers for a ready piece of standard size, galleries for the work you collect, small-painting shows for a first original, and a painting made to order once the wall outgrows the shelves.

Each kind of seller does one job well. Read the table from the right-hand column, starting with the wall you are filling.

Hand-painted stock rarely goes much beyond 2 metres, and the small-painting shows stop at about 50 cm, so a majlis wall of four or five metres is beyond both. Online is the widest shelf of all, and the hardest to judge from a photograph.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

How do you buy from a gallery in Riyadh or Jeddah when no prices are shown?

By asking: much of the Saudi art market trades privately, so tell the gallery about your wall, the artists you like and your budget, or go during an art week, when many stands show price lists.

Most Saudi galleries sell by enquiry. A Saudi art advisor told Arab News in March 2026 that most of the Kingdom's art market happens privately, with no public price at all, and the head of the Visual Arts Commission has described Saudis as traditionally very private about collecting. Art weeks are more open: at the first Art Week Riyadh, in April 2025, price lists were on the stands and dealers sold to Saudi collectors new to their programmes.

Go with the wall's width and height, the artists or subjects you like, and a budget. Ask for the size in centimetres, the medium and how the work will reach you, and whether the artist takes commissions, because a gallery sells each work at the size its artist chose. Time your visits for the cooler months, when the calendar runs from Noor Riyadh in November to Art Week in April.

Can you buy an original by a Saudi artist without a collector's budget?

Yes, in small formats: the small-painting exhibitions held by the arts societies and private galleries sell originals of about 50 cm or less, which suit a study, a corridor or a gift better than a majlis wall.

Small-painting exhibitions are the Saudi art world's own route to a first original: works no larger than about 50 cm, at deliberately modest prices, organised by the Arab Society for Culture and Arts, the Saudi Society for Visual Arts and private galleries. One Jeddah show, now past its fifteenth edition, gathers about 100 Saudi and Arab artists, veterans among them, to put a painting in every home.

The pioneers are a different matter: works by Saudi modernists that once sold locally now go to international auction, so a first-generation name is a collecting decision, made with a gallery's advice. At home the two routes combine well: hang the small original where it is seen up close, by the entrance or in a study, and give the long walls canvases made to their size in the same palette. Companies will find more in office wall art in Saudi Arabia.

Is it safe to buy wall art online in Saudi Arabia, and how do you tell paint from print?

For ready-made pieces, broadly yes, since you can cancel within seven days of delivery; check the size in centimetres, the medium and how the piece travels, and judge paint by its texture in side light.

Saudi buyers increasingly turn to international platforms for things not readily available locally, and marketplace listings put imported 'hand-painted' canvases, prints and paint-by-numbers kits side by side. Read each listing as a specification:

  • Size in centimetres, of the canvas rather than the frame.
  • Medium. Acrylic or oil on canvas is paint; canvas print, UV print and giclée are prints, whatever the title says.
  • Side light. A phone torch across the surface shows brush and knife marks casting small, varied shadows; a print stays flat or repeats one embossed texture.

A canvas made to order is therefore agreed through approvals: with iHomeArt you see photographs or video at each stage, and a side-lit photo of the texture if you ask, before the next stage starts. See our textured paintings.

When should you commission a painting in Saudi Arabia instead of buying one?

When the wall needs more than about 2 metres of canvas, a palette no shop stocks, a set for a whole new villa, or a subject that is yours alone, from a verse to the view of your farm.

Scale is the usual reason. A Riyadh design firm sees the majlis's soft lighting and fine textiles now complemented by minimalist furniture and modern art, and a Riyadh designer keeps large rooms calm so the art carries the colour. That calls for one wide canvas or a run of panels above the seating, in your palette, at a size the shops rarely stock.

New homes are the second. ROSHN alone plans more than 30,000 homes in Riyadh's SEDRA and more than 18,000 in Jeddah's ALAROUS. A new villa needs its art as a set, from the men's and women's majlis to the principal suite, in one palette; choose from the floor plan while the finishes go in, and the canvases arrive with the furniture.

The third is the subject: a verse, a Sadu pattern, your farm or your family's crest. Start a verse from a calligrapher's artwork, used with permission; for anything else, send the image with the wall size and we suggest the size, format and finish (paintings from your own image). Sizes room by room are in the Saudi size guide.

How do you order a painting from iHomeArt for a wall in Saudi Arabia?

Send a photo of the wall with its width and ceiling height on WhatsApp; we suggest a size and designs, you approve each stage from photographs, and the canvas arrives rolled, stretched or framed.

We suggest a size and a shortlist from some 1,300 designs, or design a piece for your project, and your quote, priced for your sizes and finishes, usually arrives within one business day. Order one canvas first if you like; we keep its code on file so the rest of a set can follow in the same hand.

Larger orders may go by air or sea freight, with the shipping cost confirmed before dispatch, and DHL, FedEx and UPS all offer real-time tracking in the Kingdom. The walls of a Saudi home are in villas and majlis rooms; the whole market in our Saudi Arabia wall art guide.

Where to buy paintings in Riyadh FAQs

When is Art Week Riyadh, and when is the best time to see art in Riyadh?

Art Week Riyadh is held in April, and it closes a season that opens with Noor Riyadh's light art in November and Misk Art Week in early December. In 2026 the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale also ran in the JAX District until 2 May. Most galleries at Al Mousa Centre keep evening hours, so plan visits for after about 5 pm.

Where can I get a canvas stretched or framed in Riyadh or Jeddah?

Framing shops in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Khobar stretch rolled canvases and make frames to measure. For anything wider than about a metre, ask for a stretcher with a crossbar so the canvas stays taut.

Can you paint a larger version of a painting I saw in a shop in Riyadh or Jeddah?

If the design is an artist's work still in copyright, we need the rights holder's permission before we paint it. Otherwise, send us a photo of what you liked with the size of your wall: we suggest catalogue designs in the same spirit and paint the one you choose at the size the wall needs, or design a new piece for you.

How quickly can a painting made to order reach Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam?

About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar, Abha or any other address in the Kingdom. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.

Do I need to visit a showroom to choose a painting from iHomeArt?

No. Buyers across Saudi Arabia choose with us on WhatsApp or by email: you send the wall, we send a size and a shortlist, and you see your own canvas in photographs or video at every stage. The final photograph is approved before the canvas ships, so what arrives is what you saw.
