Wall art in Bahrain: hand-painted for island villas, majlis and towers

iHomeArt paints wall art for Bahrain by hand and to order: original canvases for villas, majlis rooms, apartments, hotels and offices in Manama, Riffa, Muharraq and across the islands, each painted to the size of its wall and approved by you, stage by stage, from photographs. Wall art in Bahrain looks most at home when it belongs to an island, in sea blues, sand, pearl white and gold, and at sizes the local shelves rarely carry; this guide shows how to choose it, room by room.

The Bahrain wall art guide, one question per page

Each page answers one buying question for Bahrain: villas and the majlis, offices, hotels, where to buy, taste and sizes.

What makes wall art look at home in Bahrain?

The sea more than the desert: Gulf blues, sand and pearl white, weathered textures and a touch of gold leaf, the palette and subjects Bahrain's own painters work in.

Bahrain is an island, and its heritage is a maritime one: pearl divers, goldsmiths and trading ports, the banoosh that sailed to the pearl beds and the boom that carried cargo across the Gulf. Its painters work from that memory. Balqees Fakhro moved from Bahraini townscapes to large canvases in muted colours and textures that evoke weathered walls; one leading painter works gold, silver and bronze leaf and glossy resin into his oils; Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa went from desert, sea and heritage landscapes to geometric abstraction and aluminium wall pieces drawn from Bahrain's traditional architecture.

That gives you a simple filter. The sea, boats, palms and abstraction in sand, white and blue feel local; the desert-and-camel scenes sold across the Gulf say less about an island. Rooms here take colour well, too: one Bahrain Bay apartment published in 2026 pairs soft sandy neutrals with turquoise, deep blue, green and yellow. Where a room is mostly marble and pale stone, let texture or gold carry the painting rather than loud colour. Palettes and subjects in detail: Bahrain taste and styles.

Where does the art go in a villa with an outside majlis?

Start where guests are received: the majlis, often a building of its own by the street, then the inner reception and the ladies' sitting room; the family lounge and bedrooms can follow.

Bahrain's building rules give the majlis a place of its own: in the main residential zones a villa may add a separate single-storey majlis on the plot's front boundary, no taller than the house's ground-floor ceiling in one zone and 4 m high at most in others. Inside, the receptions multiply. A furnished five-bedroom villa advertised in 2025 lists a separate majlis, a ladies' living area and a family lounge, and the largest villas at Riffa Views have two living rooms and two dining rooms. Count the rooms where guests sit and you have your first order, often four to six paintings.

Each of those walls asks for something different. The outside majlis is long and single-storey, so it wants width rather than height: one panoramic canvas or a run of panels above the seating, hung lower than in a hall because guests see it sitting down. The ladies' sitting room can take more colour and flowers; the family lounge is the freest room in the house. Room by room, with sizes: villas and the majlis in Bahrain.

How large should a painting be for a Bahraini villa or tower?

Large, on fewer walls: with high ceilings and wide glass, the solid walls that remain usually want a canvas about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it, and a stair void wants a vertical of 2 m or more.

Bahraini villas are designed around high ceilings and large windows, and some new houses go further: a four-bedroom villa in Hamala, filmed in 2023, has floor-to-ceiling glass walls in every room. Glass takes wall away, so the art gathers on the few solid walls left, and each of them has to carry more. Measure those walls first, then size the canvas to the furniture: about two-thirds of the sofa's width above a sofa, and a tall vertical canvas of 2 m or more in a stair void.

Manama's towers set a different brief. Penthouses listed in Manama in 2026, at Bahrain Financial Harbour and in Sanabis, run to 350–454 m², and one Bahrain Bay tower launched penthouses from 220 to 850 m², duplexes among them. A duplex usually has one tall wall, at the stair; the others are single-height walls best served by horizontal canvases. The designer of one Bahrain Bay apartment kept its circulation clean and gallery-like so the artwork would be the focal point, and with a sea view competing for attention, one strong piece per wall beats several small ones. Sizes room by room, in centimetres and inches, are in the Bahrain size guide.

What should you know before ordering Islamic wall art in Bahrain?

Treat a verse as a text, not a pattern: start from a calligrapher's own artwork, have a native reader check the stage photographs, and choose geometry where you want ornament without words.

Calligraphy has a long place in Bahraini art. It is described as one of the country's most popular art forms, and the state's patronage of Islamic art produced Beit Al Quran, an Islamic museum; several of the island's galleries list Arabic calligraphy alongside painting. For Ramadan, a 2026 guide to the floor majlis suggests deep red, golden yellow or rich brown with touches of gold or bronze, with Arabic calligraphy among the finishing pieces.

For a verse, a name or a family motto, the letters must be right before any paint goes on. Start from a calligrapher's own artwork, used with their permission, send it to us with the wall size, and ask someone who reads Arabic to check the stage photographs before you approve the final one. Script that only imitates Arabic letters looks careless to anyone who can read it. Where you want ornament rather than words, geometric work in gold and cream echoes mashrabiya screens and tilework and suits a majlis and a boardroom equally well. Figurative painting has a firm place in Bahrain's own art, from souk scenes and seafronts to paintings of women, so people and animals are a question of the room rather than of the country.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

  • People and animals

Many households keep portraits and animals out of the formal majlis and hang them, if at all, in family rooms; a lounge, an office or a hotel is freer.

  • A painting as a gift

When you do not know the receiving family's taste, the sea, a landscape, flowers or abstraction are the safe choice.

Can you have Bahrain Bay, your family's old house or your logo painted?

Yes: send us the photograph or design with the wall size, and we tell you the size, format and finish it will paint best at, then paint it by hand once you are happy.

The Bahrain-themed art sold online is mostly small printed skylines. A painting of your own view is a different thing: the bay from your balcony in Seef, the old family house in Muharraq, a pearling boat from a grandfather's photograph, or your company's crest for its reception. Commissions of this kind already have a following here; one Bahraini artist sells custom, memory-based works through her Instagram page.

Send the image on WhatsApp with the wall size. We look at it, tell you how it will translate to canvas and suggest the size and finish; you then watch it take shape in photographs at every stage. You need to own the image or have permission to use it, and a design can be kept exclusive to you if you ask before we start. Where can you find large wall art in Bahrain without a trip to Dubai?

At galleries and exhibitions for a Bahraini artist's own work, in the home stores for a quick standard size, and from a studio painting to order once the wall needs more than about 1.8 m of canvas or colours of its own.

Not long ago the answer was often a flight: in 2015 the director of a new Manama art fair remarked that many Bahraini buyers travelled to Dubai to buy art. On the island itself the choice is real but small. One market report counts about fifteen galleries, two of the best known open since 1998. The Bahrain Arts Society's annual exhibition at the Art Centre, the state's annual fine arts exhibition, in its 52nd edition in 2026, and the ArtBAB fair, launched in 2016, are where Bahraini painters are seen and bought, and the state's online Artists Directory lists over a hundred artists to approach directly.

The home chains sell printed and factory-made canvases, most well under 1.8 m on the long side, with the odd larger piece. Hence a simple rule: a Bahraini artist from a gallery or exhibition for the piece you collect, a store for a quick standard size, and a canvas painted to order once the wall needs more than about 1.8 m, a palette matched to your stone or fabric, or a set that belongs together. Who sells what, and where each stops: buying art in Bahrain.

What are Bahrain's hotels hanging, and who paints the room sets?

Bahraini art in the public rooms and calm, repeatable sets in rooms, suites and residences; the sets are where a studio painting to order works alongside the designer.

Bahrain's flagship hotels show local art where guests gather. Four Seasons Bahrain Bay says its sea-voyage interiors are enhanced by a collection of Bahraini art, and The Merchant House, the island's first boutique hotel, hangs paintings and graffiti by young Bahraini artists from reception to the rooftop and the guest rooms. The pipeline keeps growing: 39 five-star hotels were open in June 2026, with 12 more on the way, and several new projects pair hotel rooms with branded residences, such as the 74 rooms and 186 residences planned for Kempinski Bahrain Harbour.

That leaves two kinds of order. The lobby and restaurant statements often go to a regional artist through the designer. The rest, dozens or hundreds of canvases for rooms, suites, corridors and residences, needs one hand, one palette and repeatable sizes, room type by room type, with a sample first. That is the part iHomeArt paints to the designer's drawings and schedule. Detail by property type: Bahrain hotels and restaurants; for a whole programme see art for Gulf hotels and palaces.

What art do offices and institutions in Manama commission?

Work that ties the organisation to Bahrain: one landmark piece at the entrance, Bahraini artists in the public rooms, and a consistent set for the floors behind them.

The best-known corporate commission stands outdoors: Bank ABC placed Victor Ekpuk's 5.4 m sculpture outside its renovated headquarters in Manama's Diplomatic Area in 2019, a piece its chief executive said connects the bank's heritage and future aspirations. Bahrain International Airport's terminal carries paintings by 15 Bahraini artists, from abstraction to realism. In both cases the art says where the institution belongs.

For an office floor at the Financial Harbour, in Seef or in the Diplomatic Area, the same logic scales down. Choose one piece with a local thread for the reception or boardroom, then have the meeting rooms and corridors painted in the same palette so the floor reads as one scheme. Art is seldom part of a fit-out contract, so put it in the brief with the furniture rather than after handover. More on offices and institutions in Bahrain.

How does an order from Bahrain work with iHomeArt?

On WhatsApp, from a photo of the wall: we suggest sizes and designs, you approve each stage from photographs, and the finished canvas comes to your address by express courier.

Bahrain already shops this way, with tracking and order updates on WhatsApp now expected. Send a photo of the wall with its width and the ceiling height; your quote, priced for your sizes and finishes, usually arrives within one business day. If you are planning a set, order one canvas first; the rest follows in the same hand once you have approved it.

The canvas travels by DHL, FedEx or UPS express, and Bahrain is well placed for it: DHL's Middle East air hub is at Bahrain International Airport, and DHL delivers to homes and businesses in Manama, Riffa and Muharraq. Larger orders may go by air or sea freight, on the route we find best for your address, with the shipping cost confirmed before dispatch.

Bahrain wall art FAQs

Will a canvas cope with Bahrain's sun and air conditioning?

Yes, if it is placed sensibly. Hang it out of direct sun, especially behind full-height glass, and away from air-conditioning outlets; blinds on west-facing windows help in summer. Acrylic on canvas is our standard and oil is available on request. To keep it clean, dust it with a dry cloth and never use sprays.

What is the largest painting you can make for a Bahraini wall?

Send us a photo of the wall with its width, the ceiling height and how the piece will reach the room, by door, stair or lift.

How long does a painting take to reach Manama, Riffa or Muharraq?

About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to any address in Bahrain, from Amwaj and Muharraq to Riffa and Durrat Al Bahrain. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.

When should I order for Ramadan, Eid or moving into a new villa?

Allow for about 10 days of painting, the time you take to approve each stage, and 5–7 days by express, then a little margin.

Can you match the marble, brass and fabrics of a Bahraini villa?

Yes. One villa-design guide for Bahrain recommends Calacatta, Statuario and travertine with brass or brushed bronze. Send photographs of your own stone, metal and fabric taken in daylight, ideally next to a sheet of white paper, and the palette is mixed to them; you approve the colours in the stage photographs.

How do I pay for a painting from Bahrain?

Half upfront against a proforma invoice, so painting can start, and the other half once you approve the photograph of the finished piece, before it ships. Your quote usually arrives within one business day of your message on WhatsApp, through the quote form or by email.

Can I return a painting if it does not suit the room?

Every piece is painted to order and you approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it ships, so finished pieces are not returnable. Damage in transit is rare, under 0.01% of pieces; if it happens, send us photos and we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund.
