What size of wall art does each kind of Bahraini home need?

The building sets the scale: a street-side majlis annex wants one wide, low canvas, a three-storey villa’s tallest wall is at the stair, a glass-walled villa has fewer but larger solid walls, and a tower flat takes a canvas of 100–160 cm.

Bahrain’s building code shapes its rooms more than any trend does. In the main residential zones a villa may rise three storeys within 13 m, so houses grow upwards: one older Riffa house fits a majlis, four living rooms and six bedrooms on a 334 m² plot. The code also provides for an external majlis, a one-storey hall on the street boundary, and new villas on Dilmunia commonly list private pools and home lifts.

Decide which of these four homes you are hanging in: each has one wall that matters more than the rest, and the cards give a size to start from. The wider picture is in our Bahrain wall art guide.

Large wall art sizes for Bahraini rooms: which canvas goes where?

Use the table as a starting point: the figures are canvas widths unless marked tall, and every iHomeArt piece is painted to the size you give us, so a size between two rows is just as easy.

Two rules of thumb sit behind every row: over furniture, about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or sideboard below; on a free wall, about half the clear width. Many villas have more than one reception room, such as the separate majlis, ladies’ living area and family lounge of one furnished villa advertised in 2025, so each gets its own line.

Any of our some 1,300 designs can be painted at these sizes. When the shape changes, the composition is redrawn for the new proportions rather than stretched. You can also have your own image painted to fit the wall.

How large should wall art be in a Bahraini majlis?

Wide and low: about two-thirds of the seating run below it, which on the main majlis wall usually means a panoramic canvas of 200–300 cm (79–118 in) or a set of two or three, hung lower than in a standing room.

Many Bahraini houses have more than one majlis: one East Riffa villa lists four. Built as a street-side annex, it is one storey, up to 4 m high from the pavement in garden-villa zones and no higher than the house’s ground-floor ceiling in Private Residential Area B; a 4 m annex leaves an inside ceiling of roughly 3.2–3.5 m. The room is long rather than tall, so the painting should be too: 80–120 cm high keeps clear air above it.

Size it from the seating. One majlis furniture maker writing for Gulf clients plans a room for 24 guests at about 9 × 11 m, with 4.2 m of host seating facing the entrance; two-thirds of that run is a canvas of about 280 cm (110 in), or three 90 cm panels with 5 cm gaps. Guests see the wall seated, so hang it 25–35 cm above the backrest, and lower over floor cushions. One Gulf design firm’s majlis guidance uses a single-colour palette so that one statement piece stands out, and many households keep people and animals out of this room, choosing calligraphy, geometry, abstraction or landscape instead. How do floor-to-ceiling windows change the size you need?

They leave fewer solid walls, so the wall you do have usually takes one larger canvas, sized to the panel between the windows rather than to the room.

Glass is everywhere in newer Bahraini villas. A Hamala villa shown in a 2023 video tour with more than 7,000 views has floor-to-ceiling glass in every room, and one design firm’s guide to Bahraini villas describes high ceilings, large windows and rooms arranged around a courtyard or garden. The art then goes on fewer walls: one solid panel in the living room, one in the dining room, and the stair.

Measure that panel, not the room. Leave 30–40 cm of plain wall beside each window frame and take the largest width that remains: on a 3 m panel, that is a canvas of about 220 cm (87 in). Tape the outline on the wall and look at it from the sofa and from the door before you order, and keep the canvas off walls that take the afternoon sun.

Which tall canvas fits the stair of a three-storey villa or a duplex?

A vertical of 180–250 cm (71–98 in), or two or three stacked panels, centred on the view from the half-landing so it reads from both floors.

Three storeys inside 13 m leave room for floors of a little over 4 m each, so a stair from the entrance hall to the first floor can face a wall 6–8 m high, often the first one guests see. A single tall canvas suits a straight stair seen from the front door; a stacked pair or trio suits a stair that turns, with each panel lined up with a landing.

Penthouses bring the same wall indoors. Manama listings include a 350 m² duplex penthouse in Sanabis, and the Onyx tower in Bahrain Bay launched in 2022 with penthouses of 220–850 m², duplexes and a three-floor unit among them. Where the stair rises through two floors, plan a vertical of 200–250 cm; a single-level penthouse takes a horizontal of 150–200 cm (59–79 in) on the living wall instead. Browse tall vertical works.

What size of painting suits a tower apartment in Bahrain Bay or Financial Harbour?

Usually one canvas of 100–160 cm (39–63 in) on the main living wall and 90–120 cm (35–47 in) above the bed: one strong piece rather than several small ones, because glass takes most of the wall.

A one-bedroom in Bahrain Bay can be about 90 m², and at Bahrain Financial Harbour the Harbour Heights tower alone holds 437 apartments. With glass on the view side, the living room usually has one solid wall, often 3.5–5 m long, which a canvas of 120–160 cm fills without crowding the sofa.

Designers in Manama treat that wall as the focal point. In a 1,937 sq ft apartment at the Four Seasons Private Residences, Bahrain Bay, the Bahrain-based designer Mohamed Alqari kept circulation “clean and gallery-like” and hung a single black work in the living room. What sizes of large wall art do Bahrain’s hotels, residences and offices take?

About 100–150 cm (39–59 in) above a guest-room or residence bed, repeated across each room type; 180–250 cm (71–98 in) in a boardroom; and 300 cm (118 in) or more, or a set, in a lobby.

Bahrain passed 24,000 hotel rooms in about 140 hotels in 2026, with 12 more five-star properties to come, and many new openings carry residences. Hilton Bahrain City Centre in Seef was due to open with 594 studios, suites and penthouses, each with a full kitchen, and Kempinski’s tower at Bahrain Harbour was planned with 74 rooms and 186 residences. Most hotel art here is therefore a repeat order: one size for each room type, painted in one hand, after a sample is approved.

Public spaces work at another scale. The airport’s stained-glass Concordia measures 34 by 17 m, and Bank ABC set a 5.4 m sculpture in front of its Manama headquarters; beside commissions like these, a lobby canvas under 2 m looks lost. The buyers and their briefs are on Bahrain hotels and restaurants and Bahrain offices and institutions.

Should large wall art arrive rolled, stretched or framed in Bahrain?

Choose by the way in: a stretched or framed canvas has to pass the door, the stair and the lift, while a rolled one passes almost anywhere.

Measure the route before you fix the size. Lifts are commonly listed in new Dilmunia villas and offered as an option at Al Naseem in Diyar Al Muharraq, but a home lift is rarely deep enough for a 2 m frame, and a tower’s service lift has its own limits. Send the width of the front door, the turn of the stair and the lift’s door and depth along with the wall.

Stretched or framed arrives ready to hang; heavily textured and 3D plaster work always travels that way, so a very large textured piece is often best as two or three panels. Send the wall on WhatsApp and we suggest a size and a shortlist, or design a piece for the room; your quote usually arrives within one business day. See oversized and custom-size art.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

Large wall art in Bahrain FAQs

Do I have to choose a standard canvas size?

No. Standard sizes such as 60 × 90 cm (24 × 35 in) or 120 × 180 cm (47 × 71 in) suit ready-made frames and shop shelves. Every iHomeArt canvas is painted to order, so it can be the exact width your wall needs, long panoramic and tall vertical formats included. Send us the wall and we suggest the size.

Will a large canvas cope with Bahrain’s summer heat and humidity?

Yes, when it is hung sensibly. Choose a wall out of direct afternoon sun, keep the canvas clear of air-conditioning outlets, and draw blinds on west-facing glass in summer. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth and never use sprays. Acrylic on canvas is our standard, and oil is available on request.

How long does a large painting take to reach Manama, Riffa or Muharraq?

About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to any address in Bahrain; DHL’s Middle East air network is based at Bahrain International Airport. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.

Can one painting be made first to check the size before a whole villa or hotel order?

Yes. The minimum order is one piece, so a sample is simply a first order: we paint one canvas at the size you plan, you approve it from photographs, hang it and judge it on your wall, and the rest follows in the same hand and palette. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces, which suits a villa set or a run of hotel rooms.

Can you paint my own photograph or a calligrapher’s artwork at a large size?

Yes. Send us the image and the wall size, and we suggest the size, format and finish it will paint best at. For a verse or a name, start from a calligrapher’s own artwork, used with their permission, and have a native reader check the stage photographs. You need to own the image or have permission, and the design can be kept exclusive to you.

What is the largest single canvas you can paint for a Bahraini wall?

Send us a photo of the wall with its width, the ceiling height and the way in: front door, stair and lift. We look at it and suggest the size, format and finish that suit, whether one oversized canvas that travels rolled and is stretched in Bahrain, or a set of two or three panels that hangs as one.
