Wall decor in Bahrain for villas, majlis rooms and apartments
iHomeArt paints wall decor for Bahraini homes by hand and to order: original canvases for the majlis, the ladies' sitting room, the family lounge and every other wall of villas and apartments in Manama, Riffa, Muharraq and on the islands. Many Bahraini houses receive guests in more than one room, and the majlis may even stand in its own building by the street, so each reception wants a painting of its own.

Which walls in a Bahraini villa need a painting first?
The walls your guests face: the majlis, then the ladies' sitting room and the family lounge, then the dining room; bedrooms, corridors and the stair can follow once the receptions are done.
Count the rooms where you receive people before you count paintings. A five-bedroom villa advertised in November 2025 lists a separate majlis, a ladies' living area and a family lounge, as well as a dining area, and older Riffa houses on the market in September 2026 range from one majlis with four living rooms to four majlis under one roof. Newer estates keep the idea: Durrat Al Bahrain villas pair a large open-plan reception with a separate family room.
Each of those rooms has its own audience, so each wants its own painting rather than one style repeated through the house. Keep one thread running through, a palette or a finish, and let the subject and the scale change from room to room. Start where guests sit, and let the private rooms follow. Measurements for each room are in the Bahrain size guide.

What majlis wall decoration suits a majlis by the street?
A wide, calm canvas or a run of panels along the long wall, in abstraction, geometry, sea or landscape, because a street majlis is a long, low room rather than a tall one.
Bahrain's building rules let the majlis be a building of its own. In Residential Area B zones a detached majlis and utility building of up to 20% of the plot may stand beside the house, no taller than the house's ground-floor ceiling; in garden-villa zones an external majlis may run along up to a quarter of the street frontage and rise no more than 4 m from the pavement. The result is a long, single-storey room with seating along the walls; one Gulf majlis guide plans 24 guests in a room of about 9 by 11 metres, seated on three sides with the host facing the door.
So think in width: one horizontal canvas above the host's seating, or a two- or three-panel set along a side wall, hung low enough to be read sitting down. Design guidance for Gulf majlis rooms builds a restrained, near-monochrome scheme around one statement piece, against marble, velvet and touches of gold. For a warmer piece in Ramadan, a 2026 decorating guide suggests deep red, golden yellow or rich brown with gold or bronze accents.
People and animals
Many households keep portraits and animals out of the majlis and hang them, if at all, in private rooms; abstraction, geometry, sea and landscape suit every guest.
Calligraphy and verses
Start from a calligrapher's own artwork, used with their permission, and have a native reader check the stage photographs before you approve the next step.
Where do florals, portraits and strong colour belong in a Bahraini home?
In the rooms the family keeps for itself: the ladies' sitting room, the family lounge and the bedrooms, where the formality of the majlis relaxes.
Bahrain's own painters show how wide the private register can be. Ahmed Anan, a past president of the Bahrain Contemporary Art Society, builds his work around the woman as icon and muse, and Lulwa Al Khalifa paints in bold colour with textured brushstrokes; Abbas Almosawi, who first exhibited in Manama in 1977, paints souks, seafronts and social gatherings. Figures, flowers and colour belong to local painting, and the family's own rooms are the natural place for them.
The ladies' sitting room usually takes the softer piece: a floral in blush, cream or sage, or a textured bloom that catches the light. The family lounge can carry the strongest colour in the house, as long as the rest of the room stays quiet. A Bahrain Bay apartment published in July 2026 shows the balance: sandy tones and warm neutrals with turquoise, deep blue, green and yellow, and a green palette in the bedroom. Browse floral paintings, or read which subjects and palettes suit Bahrain.
Where does the painting go in a new villa built around glass and water?
On the few solid walls, usually the one the sofa backs onto or faces, with one larger canvas in each room rather than a cluster of small frames.
Many of Bahrain's newer villas are built for the view. Al Naseem at Diyar Al Muharraq lines more than 300 villas along canals, with canal-view balconies and optional boat docks; new-build villas on Dilmunia list lifts and private pools as standard; and a four-bedroom Hamala villa toured in 2023 has floor-to-ceiling glass in every room. Glass takes walls away, so the solid ones carry the art.
Give each of those walls one larger piece and take its colours from outside: sea, sky and sand, the greens of the garden, or abstraction in turquoise, deep blue and white. Keep canvases out of direct sun. A design firm working on Bahraini villas suggests local artwork, metalwork or ceramics on feature walls, against travertine or Calacatta marble, oak or walnut and brushed bronze; a painting with texture and a touch of metallic leaf sits easily among them.
What goes on the stair wall of a three-storey family villa?
A tall vertical canvas or a stacked pair, sized to the full height of the stairwell, because the stair is usually the tallest wall in the house.
Bahrain's private residential zones allow villas of up to three storeys, and many family houses use them all: one Riffa villa on the market in September 2026 has about 600 m² of floor space on a 334 m² plot. Building upwards puts the stair at the heart of the house, with a wall that rises through every floor, and in many new villas a lift now does the daily climbing, which leaves the stairwell free to be the house's gallery wall. Duplex penthouses work the same way: Onyx Bahrain Bay offers duplex layouts and one unit over three floors.
Treat the stairwell as one composition: a single vertical canvas centred on the first landing, or two tall pieces stacked along the flight, read from the hall below. Browse tall vertical works.
How does wall decor change in a Bahrain Bay or Seef apartment?
Fewer, larger pieces: one painting as the focus of the living room, in colours that answer the view, with calmer work in the bedrooms.
Apartments are forecast to be the fastest-growing part of Bahrain's luxury home market, and their interiors lean towards restraint. In a Four Seasons Private Residences apartment at Bahrain Bay, the designer Mohamed Alqari kept circulation "clean and gallery-like" so the art could be the focal point, with a black work by Martin Berger in the living room among pieces by local, European and American artists. An Amwaj villa by the studio Moriq took the same line in grey and white, with one wall-art moment in the formal lounge.
For a flat, choose the living-room piece first and let the smaller ones follow its palette. Measure the lift and the corridor before you settle on a size. Grey, white and sand with a little texture suit most towers. See our minimalist paintings.
Can you have your family house, your boat or your view painted?
Yes: send us the photograph and the wall size, and we tell you the size, format and finish it will paint best at before anything starts.
Memory runs through Bahraini painting: artists there show work about "our memory, our past and our identity", as the director of The Art Station in Muharraq puts it. Balqees Fakhro began with Bahraini landscapes and townscapes before turning to large abstracts whose textures recall weathered old walls, and Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa moved from desert, sea and heritage landscapes to geometric abstraction. The island's story before oil is one of pearl divers, goldsmiths and trading ports, and the souq still sells teak models of the dhows that carried them.
We paint the same kind of subject from your own picture: the old family house in Muharraq, a grandfather's boat, the view from your balcony or the family crest. Send it on WhatsApp with the wall size; we suggest the size, format and finish, and paint it by hand once you are happy with the plan. You need to own the image or have permission to use it, and a design can be kept exclusive to you if you ask before we start. For a name or a verse in Arabic, start from a calligrapher's artwork. How do you order wall decor for a Bahraini home from iHomeArt?
Send a photo of each wall with its width on WhatsApp; we suggest sizes and designs, quote usually within one business day, and you approve every stage from photographs before anything ships.
Start with the receptions. A photo of each wall, its width and the ceiling height are enough for us to suggest a size and a shortlist from some 1,300 designs, or to design a piece for your house; order one canvas first if you like. Every canvas is labelled with its room and listed on a packing list, so a whole-house delivery goes straight to the right walls.
Every piece is painted to order, and you approve the photographs of each stage and of the finished canvas before it ships, so you know exactly what is coming; that is also why finished pieces are not returnable. Damage in transit is rare, under 0.01% of pieces; if it happens, we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund. The wider picture is in our Bahrain wall art guide; designers planning a whole house can also see whole-villa projects.
Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.
Wall decor in Bahrain FAQs
What is the largest painting you can make for a majlis or a stairwell in Bahrain?
Send us a photo of the wall with its width, the ceiling height and how the piece will reach the room, by door, stair or lift.
Should a canvas for a Bahraini home arrive rolled, stretched or framed?
Stretched arrives ready to hang, and framed comes with a gold, silver, black, white or wood frame. Heavily textured and plaster work always travels stretched or framed, so the relief arrives as it was painted.
How long does a painting take to reach Manama, Riffa or Muharraq?
About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Manama, Riffa, Muharraq or any other address in Bahrain. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.
Can you match a painting to my sofa, curtains or marble?
Yes. Send photographs of the fabric, stone or wall colour taken in daylight, ideally next to a sheet of white paper, and the palette is mixed to them. You see the colours on the canvas in the stage photographs and approve them before the next stage starts.
Can I start with the majlis and add paintings for the rest of the house later?
Yes. The minimum order is one piece, so the majlis canvas can come first and double as your sample. We keep the order codes on file, so later pieces for the lounge, the dining room or the bedrooms can follow in the same hand and palette. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces.
How should I look after a canvas in Bahrain's heat and air conditioning?
Hang it out of direct sun and away from the air-conditioning outlet, and draw blinds or sheers on west-facing glass in the afternoon. Dust it now and then with a soft, dry cloth and never use sprays or water. Acrylic on canvas is our standard; oil is available on request.
