Paintings for sale in Bahrain: shops, galleries and commissions

iHomeArt paints original canvases by hand and to order for villas, majlis rooms, apartments, hotels and offices in Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and across Bahrain, at the size and in the colours your wall needs. Bahrain has a lively gallery and exhibition scene, yet few shop canvases pass 1.8 metres: this guide to paintings for sale in Bahrain shows what each kind of seller does well, and when commissioning is the simpler route.

Can you find a good painting in Bahrain, or is it worth the trip to Dubai?

For most walls Bahrain has what you need, and Dubai adds more galleries rather than bigger canvases: for a very large canvas, or colours taken from your own room, you are commissioning in either city.

Plenty of Bahraini buyers have made the trip: the director of a Manama art fair told The National in 2015 that many travelled to Dubai to buy art, and one Amwaj Islands villa was decorated with pieces picked from shops across Bahrain and Dubai. The choice at home has grown since: one 2025 market report counts about 15 galleries, two of the best known open since 1998, and Adliya's Block 338 puts galleries, restaurants and boutiques in one walkable quarter.

Dubai adds more galleries and regional artists to choose from, but rarely more size: its home chains stop at about 2.5 metres, and a stretched canvas that large does not come home as luggage. So let the wall decide. A framed print for a guest room is a shopping trip in either country; a canvas the width of a majlis, or six paintings that belong together, is a commission. For the Dubai side, see our guide to buying art in the UAE; for Bahrain as a whole, the Bahrain wall art guide.

Where can you find paintings for sale in Bahrain, and which seller suits your wall?

A lane of the Muharraq souq: Bahrain's markets, malls and galleries all sell something for a wall, but few sell a canvas wider than about 1.8 metres. Gasschh, CC BY-SA 4.0

Home stores for a quick ready-made piece, framers for finishing, online sellers for printed décor, galleries and exhibitions for a Bahraini artist's own work, and a studio that paints to order once the wall outgrows the shelves.

Each kind of seller does one job well and stops at a different point. Start from the right-hand column: what is the wall for?

Most households use more than one row: a shop for the bedrooms and corridors, and a painter for the walls that guests see first.

How large are the canvases in Bahrain's home stores, and are they really hand-painted?

Most stop below 1.5 metres and only a handful pass 1.8, and a 'hand-painted' label on a canvas priced like the prints beside it deserves a closer look.

The home and furniture chains in Bahrain's malls do one thing well: a ready-made piece, today, for a standard wall. One chain's wall-art range stops at about 1.2 metres, a flat-pack chain's largest single canvas is 1.4 metres wide, and a third carries several framed canvases of 1.65 to 1.8 metres plus, the rare exception, one framed piece close to 3 metres.

Check the label, too: several chain canvases are sold as 'handpainted' or 'oil painting' at the same price as the prints beside them, and a print can carry a moulded texture. With iHomeArt every canvas is painted by hand, nothing is printed, and you see the brushwork in photographs at every stage, with a side-lit photograph of the texture if you ask. See our textured paintings.

  • Side light

Shine a phone torch across the surface: brush and knife marks throw small shadows that change from stroke to stroke, while a print stays flat or repeats one embossed pattern.

  • Up close

Zoom in with your phone camera. Printed colour breaks into a fine grid of dots; paint does not.

  • Work in progress

Ask for photographs of the canvas being painted. The painter can show you; a reseller usually cannot.

How do you buy a painting by a Bahraini artist?

Through the annual exhibitions, the galleries and the art fair, or directly from the painter: many show new work on Instagram and can be asked about a commission there.

The exhibition calendar is the best shop window for local work. The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities held the 52nd Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition in 2026, the Bahrain Arts Society, founded by 34 artists in 1983, hung its annual show at the Art Centre early that year, and the ArtBAB fair had grown to 17 galleries by its third edition in 2018. Between shows, the authority's online Artists Directory lists more than 100 artists by name, a good starting point for a commission, and Instagram is where many painters show new work: one profiled in 2025 shows custom pieces there that bring people's memories to life.

Expect a distinct register. Balqees Fakhro moved from townscapes to large abstract canvases in muted colours and textures inspired by weathered walls; Abbas Almosawi paints souks, seafronts and fishing communities; one leading painter works gold, silver and bronze leaf into his oils. For a villa or an office, a practical split is one work by a Bahraini artist for the wall visitors notice first, and canvases painted to order in the same palette for the rest.

Buying art online or on Instagram in Bahrain: what should you agree first?

The size in centimetres, the medium, a daylight photograph and how the piece reaches you, all in writing before you pay.

Whoever you buy from, in a shop or by message, what you agree is what protects you: before you pay, get the size in centimetres, the medium (printed, acrylic or oil), a daylight photograph and the delivery method in writing.

A painting made for your wall cannot go back on a shelf, which is why our terms rest on approval: you approve the final photograph before the canvas ships, so finished pieces are not returnable. Damage in transit is rare, under 0.01% of pieces; if it happens, we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund.

When should you commission a painting in Bahrain rather than buy one?

When the wall needs more than about 1.8 metres of canvas, a palette no shop stocks, a set that belongs together or a subject that is yours alone.

Any one of these is reason enough, and Bahraini houses meet them early. One five-bedroom villa listed in 2025 offers a separate majlis, a ladies' living area and a family lounge: three reception walls in one household that should read as one scheme. A Gulf design guide sizes a large majlis at about 9 by 11 metres, which leaves a host wall of some 9 metres facing the door, far beyond any shop canvas. Sizes room by room are in the Bahrain size guide, and the walls of a villa in villas and majlis.

For a subject that is yours, such as your family's house in Muharraq, a dhow on the bay or your company's crest, send us the image with the wall size and we suggest the size, format and finish (see paintings from your own image). For a verse, start from a calligrapher's artwork, used with their permission, and have a native reader check the stage photographs.

Who sources the art when a designer fits out your villa or office in Bahrain?

Usually the lead designer, late in the job, because few fit-out firms offer art; raise it while the walls are being drawn and every painting can be made to its wall.

Bahrain's business directories list more than 200 interior design companies, yet few studio and fit-out firms list art among their services. When art arrives, the lead designer chooses it: in one Bahrain Bay apartment the architect mixed local artists with pieces from Europe and the United States, against sandy neutrals, turquoise and deep blue.

If you are the designer, the useful moment is when joinery and lighting are drawn. Send the elevations or a photo of each wall with its size and palette; we suggest designs from some 1,300 in the catalogue or design pieces to the project's budget, label each canvas by room or position with a packing list, and send stage photographs straight to whoever approves them. More on art for residential interior designers.

How do you order a painting from iHomeArt for a wall in Bahrain?

Send a photo of the wall and its width on WhatsApp; we suggest a size and designs, quote usually within one business day, and you approve each stage from photographs before the canvas ships.

Start with the wall rather than the catalogue: a photograph, the width and the ceiling height are enough, and you can order one canvas first and the rest of a set once you have approved it. Express parcels reach Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and the islands by DHL, FedEx or UPS; DHL runs its Middle East air hub from Bahrain International Airport. Larger orders may go by air or sea freight, on the route we find best for your address, with the shipping cost confirmed before dispatch.

For a large framed piece, local furniture movers who pack and carry, booked on WhatsApp, cover Manama, Muharraq, Riffa and Isa Town.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

Paintings for sale in Bahrain FAQs

Can you paint Bahrain itself: a dhow, the Manama skyline or our family house?

Yes. Send us the photograph and the size of the wall: a dhow on the bay, the towers of Bahrain Bay, your family's old house in Muharraq or the view from your balcony. We tell you how it will translate to canvas, suggest the size and finish, and paint it by hand. You need to own the image or have permission to use it; ask before we start if you want the design kept exclusive to you.

Can you paint a larger version of a painting I saw in a Bahrain gallery or shop?

If the work is by an artist and still in copyright, we need the rights holder's permission before we paint it; for a Bahraini painter, the simplest route is often to ask the artist about a commission. Otherwise, send us a photo of what you liked and the size of your wall, and we suggest catalogue designs in the same spirit or design a new piece for you.

Can you match a painting to my majlis sofa, curtains or marble?

Yes. Photograph the fabric, stone or paint in daylight, ideally beside a sheet of white paper, and send it with the wall size. The palette is mixed to your photographs, and you see the colours on the canvas in the stage photographs and approve them before the next stage starts.

How long does a painting take to reach Bahrain?

About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Manama, Muharraq, Riffa, Amwaj or any other address in Bahrain. Larger orders may travel by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.

Can I order just one painting for a flat in Juffair or Bahrain Bay?

Yes. The minimum order is one piece, so a single canvas for an apartment in Juffair, Seef or Bahrain Bay is welcome, and it can double as a sample if you plan more. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces: a villa set, an office floor or a run of hotel rooms.
