Where can you buy art in Dubai and the rest of the UAE?

In seven kinds of place, from the home stores in the malls to the galleries of Al Quoz and DIFC, the November and April fairs, artists who take commissions and studios that paint to order; the size of your wall decides which one fits.

Most searches start in a mall, and for a standard wall that is sensible: asked where to buy a large painting, two Dubai residents pointed to the big home chains. Read the table from the right: find your job, then its seller.

Once a wall needs more than about 2.5 metres of canvas, or pieces that belong together, the bottom row is usually where you end up. Rooms, sizes and taste across the country are in our UAE wall art guide.

When is the best time to buy art in the UAE?

In November, when Frieze Abu Dhabi and World Art Dubai fall in the same week and Nomad returns to Abu Dhabi, and in April for Art Dubai; if the wall has a move-in date, do not wait for a fair.

The UAE's art year peaks twice. In November, Abu Dhabi Art continues as Frieze Abu Dhabi at Manarat Al Saadiyat, after an edition with 142 galleries in 2025; the organisers of World Art Dubai, the affordable fair, expect more than 10,000 works from over 400 galleries and solo artists; and Nomad, which its organisers plan to hold each year in Abu Dhabi's old airport terminal, showed nearly two dozen galleries there in 2025. In spring comes Art Dubai, the region's main gallery fair, next held on 7–11 April 2027.

Take a photo of your wall and its width, ask for each work's size with the frame, and ask whether the artist takes commissions if the piece you love is the wrong size. A booth sells the artist's own size, painted months ago; if the wall has a move-in date, start a painting now rather than hoping a fair has it.

Which art galleries in Dubai sell paintings for a home?

The commercial galleries cluster in Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz and in DIFC, and they sell named artists' work at the size the artist chose: the right place for the one piece you collect.

Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz gathers 25 member spaces, galleries among them, and Emirati painters show there, as Badr Abbas did with his paintings of Dubai's streets in 2024. The other cluster is DIFC, with its galleries in Gate Village, in a district that describes itself as home to the UAE's largest public art collection.

A DIFC gallery director says expats once kept a lower-priced 'UAE collection' and saved serious pieces for home, a habit that has shifted as residents see the region as permanent. Buy for the home you live in now. If the work you love is smaller than your wall, hang it where it is seen up close, in a study or by the dining table, and give the big wall a canvas painted to its size. Ask for the size with the frame, and check it against the service lift if it is going up a tower.

Where can you buy paintings in Abu Dhabi?

On Saadiyat Island and in Mina Zayed for galleries and the November fairs, in the malls for ready-made pieces, and from a studio that paints to order once the wall outgrows both.

Abu Dhabi's art life centres on the Saadiyat Cultural District, where Guggenheim Abu Dhabi joins Louvre Abu Dhabi on 11 December 2026. Museums do not sell, but they shape taste: Louvre Abu Dhabi's 2021 exhibition 'Abstraction and Calligraphy' hung Kandinsky and Pollock beside Dia Azzawi and Shakir Hassan Al Said, a useful brief for a majlis or an office reception.

To buy, look to the galleries of MiZA in Mina Zayed, where one showed a 275 × 400 cm acrylic by Juma Al Haj in 2025 (galleries go large when the artist does), and to the November fairs on Saadiyat and at the old airport. The malls carry the home chains; one resident asking online where to buy art set the bar at the 'decent looking art' of a Dubai wholesale mall. Above that level, a canvas painted to order reaches Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Al Dhafra by the same express route as Dubai.

Can you buy directly from an artist in the UAE?

Yes: group shows, hotel exhibitions and online art communities are where you meet painters, and commissioning one suits a single piece in their hand, on their timeline.

Residents ask on the Dubai subreddit where to find local artists who sell directly, and r/ArtUAE was started in 2023 for UAE artists and art lovers to share work and events. Midad, a group show of Emirati painters, opened at a Dubai hotel in August 2025. Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown goes further, with more than 200 original works by Emirati and UAE-based artists on its walls, all for sale to guests through its concept store.

Before you pay an artist, agree in writing the size in centimetres, the medium, the colours, how you will see progress, the date and the delivery. That suits one piece with a story. Eight canvases matched to a villa's palette by a handover date are studio work, and so is a subject that is yours: a view of Hatta, your villa, a family photograph. Send us the image with the wall size and we suggest the size and finish (see paintings from your own image).

Why is large wall art so hard to find in Dubai's shops?

Because the chains and décor shops stock the sizes that sell fastest, mostly well under 2 metres, and their few large pieces come in the colours the shop ordered rather than those of your room.

One Dubai resident wanting a painting the size of a large television, 65 to 75 inches on the diagonal, found the furniture shops 'on the smaller side'; one reply suggested a print framed in Satwa instead, another a large matte print from a copy shop in a flat-pack frame. That is a fair choice for a rented flat. It is not a painting, and on the wall your guests face, the difference shows.

'Hand-painted' on a price ticket can mean anything from a canvas painted stroke by stroke to a print with brushed texture on top. Side light shows real brushwork as small shadows that change from stroke to stroke; a phone camera zoomed in shows a print breaking into dots; and whoever painted it can show you progress photographs. With iHomeArt nothing is printed, and a side-lit photograph of the texture is yours on request.

At what point does commissioning beat shopping in the UAE?

When the wall needs more than about 2.5 metres of canvas, the colours must match stone or fabric, the room needs a set, or the art has to be up by a handover date.

In UAE homes these signals often arrive together: a villa reception wants width, its marble and velvet set the palette, and the rooms around it want pieces that belong with it. The date is the one buyers forget. One Dubai villa designer writes that new commissions are developed in parallel with the architecture, and one Emirates Hills studio says it completes projects in 12 to 20 weeks: time enough to choose the art once the finishes are fixed and have it painted before the furniture arrives.

Shopping wins for a standard wall, a rental, a gift, or a named artist's work you have fallen for. For everything else, start from the wall: sizes for each UAE room are in the UAE size guide, and a villa's walls, room by room, in art for UAE homes.

What changes when you order from iHomeArt instead of a Dubai shop?

You judge your own canvas in photographs while it is painted, rather than a finished piece on a shelf, and it reaches any emirate rolled, stretched or framed.

Start with a photo of the wall, its width and the ceiling height. We suggest a size and a shortlist from some 1,300 designs, or design a piece for your project; you approve each stage from photographs or video before the next begins, and the final photograph before the canvas ships. Planning a set? Order one canvas first.

Then choose the finish for the journey. Because you approve each piece before it leaves, finished pieces are not returnable. Damage in transit is rare, under 0.01% of pieces; if it happens, send us photos and we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

Where to buy art in Dubai FAQs

Are there art shops in Dubai Mall and the other big malls?

Yes. Dubai's large malls hold home and furniture chains and smaller décor shops, with ready-made canvases, framed prints and calligraphy, some labelled hand-painted. They suit a standard wall you want filled this week. For a canvas wider than about 2 metres, a colour no one stocks or a set that belongs together, a painting made to order is usually the shorter route.

Is there an affordable art fair in Dubai?

Yes. World Art Dubai, held each November, is the UAE's affordable fair; the 2026 edition runs 19–22 November. Its rules keep nudity, religious symbols and political themes off the walls, so most of what is on show suits a family home. Take your wall's width with you, because works are sold at the size they were painted.

Where can I get a canvas stretched or framed in Dubai?

Al Quoz has the best-known group of framers, and residents also recommend shops in Karama and Satwa. iHomeArt canvases can also arrive stretched, or framed in gold, silver, black, white or wood, ready to hang.

Can you paint a larger version of something I saw at Art Dubai?

If the work is still in copyright, we need the rights holder's permission first, and the artist or their gallery is the first to ask about a larger version. Otherwise, send us a photo of what you liked and the size of your wall: we suggest catalogue designs in the same spirit, or design a new piece, and paint it at the size the wall needs.

What should I check before buying a painting online in the UAE?

Ask for the size in centimetres with and without the frame, the medium, whether it is painted or printed, and a daylight photograph of the piece itself. Ask how it travels, rolled or stretched, and who stretches it if it arrives rolled. For a tower or gated community, the delivery may need a building NOC booked at least three days ahead and a service-lift slot.
