About this painting

Two pink lotus flowers open above a pond of broad lily pads, one near the top edge and one at the centre, with a tall bud standing at the upper right and a smaller one tilted at the left. The lower bloom is the stronger of the two, its petals rimmed in deep pink around a green-gold seed head.

Behind them the green deepens to emerald on the left and pales to a mint glow at the upper right. The pads are lime, yellow-green and teal, and the brushwork is smooth and softly blended, with short dark strokes for the water and stems at the bottom.
