About this painting

A wide band of lavender cloud floats over a navy sea, with a strip of white light between them where surf breaks along the horizon. Above, the sky deepens to teal and green-blue at the top edge, so the square reads as three stacked bands: cool, pale, dark.

Paint is dragged sideways in long strokes, and the lavender is peppered with small dark flecks, like spray or birds too far off to resolve. At the horizon the white is heaped into ragged peaks that stand proud of the surface. The bottom third, cobalt and ultramarine streaked with green, carries the heaviest colour and anchors the picture.
