A sea turtle glides from left to right through clear blue water, its amber and russet shell lit from above by rays slanting down through the surface. Each flipper is a mosaic of dark plates edged in cream, and the head, in profile, carries the same pattern.

The paint goes on in short, thick knife strokes. White and turquoise flecks across the top suggest the broken surface of the sea, while the bottom edge crowds with violet, plum and coral-orange reef, a red sea fan and yellow fronds on the right. Small bubbles rise just ahead of the turtle's head.
