About this painting

One ocean wave rears up from the lower left, its turquoise and deep blue face curling over into a crest of heavy white foam that bursts just below the top edge. The foam is piled on thick with a knife, and spray is flicked out into a pale blue sky as separate raised specks.

Beyond the curl, calm water stretches back to a warm yellow horizon on the right, a flat and quiet passage set against the force of the break. Strokes inside the wave follow its curve in long ribbed bands of teal, aqua and white, with small navy touches in the hollow for depth.

No. It shares the subject of a curling wave but not the composition or style: there is no boat, no mountain and no woodblock outline. This is a single close view of one breaker, built in thick knife strokes, with a soft sunset horizon behind it.

How raised is the foam on TA#530?
