About this painting

Two small dark figures walk side by side along wet sand toward a sun that is just touching the sea, their reflections stretching down the beach beneath them.

They are tiny against the space around them, and that is the point. An orange and red sky streaked with violet-blue cloud fills the top half, built from short, angled knife strokes that leave flecks of paint standing up like sparks. Surf breaks white along the left, the wet sand mirrors the sky in amber, and a grassy dune in dark green and plum closes off the right-hand corner.
