About this painting

A low sun bursts between two blue mountain ridges and pours yellow light down a green valley toward a meadow crowded with wildflowers. Rays fan out across a sky of rose, tangerine and violet cloud, and the slopes on either side darken to cobalt and plum as they fall away from the glare.

The bottom third is where the paint stands up: red poppies, yellow daisies, magenta and purple blooms dabbed on in thick, overlapping strokes against the smoother haze of the valley floor. A few grazing animals sit mid-valley, tiny enough to find only up close.
