About this painting

A ginger kitten sits on a mauve floor and looks out with wide green eyes, its striped tail curling up behind it to a yellow tip.

The face is the most worked part: rust-red patches around the eyes, a pink nose and fine white whiskers drawn out across the cheeks. The cream chest carries a cool blue-gray shadow, and the coat is built from short, loaded strokes of orange, ochre and brown.
