How does art dropshipping work with hand-painted originals?

You list works from our catalogue, your customer buys one, you send us the order, and we paint that canvas and ship it to your customer.

Print-on-demand and hand-painted dropshipping look alike in a listing photo, but a print is made from a file in hours, while a hand-painted canvas is painted with brush and palette knife for its order. When you compare wall art dropshipping suppliers, ask that first: printed or painted? Here it is always painted, in acrylic as standard or oil on request. That makes artwork dropshipping with originals slower than print, and a different thing to sell: the painting itself.

You hold no stock and buy nothing until a customer has paid you. Each order reaches us directly, on WhatsApp or by email, so nothing needs installing in your store. Some 1,300 works are ready to list, and any of them can be resized or recoloured on request.

Buying stock to sell from your own premises is a different job: see galleries and framers, or home stagers if you dress houses for sale.

Which works should a wall art dropshipping store list first?

List by the wall your customer is dressing and the look they want: a long panoramic for over the sofa or bed, something coastal, something quiet and minimal, and one burst of colour.

People shopping for wall art online usually start from a room, a colour or a mood rather than an artist's name. Every catalogue work is tagged that way, which gives you ready-made collections: start from living room, bedroom or entryway works, or from a colour such as blue or pink. Twenty works in two or three related looks read as a shop with an eye, and invite a customer to buy a pair.

What photographs and description can I use on my listings?

Ask us about our catalogue photographs for the codes you list, and describe each piece as what it is: an original, hand-painted to order, matching the photograph but slightly different in its brushwork.

Every catalogue work is photographed on its own and hung in styled rooms like those on this page; a product page needs both, the painting square-on and a room shot for scale. Send the codes you plan to sell and we confirm which photographs you may use for each.

In the description, say plainly that the painting is made for the buyer: same composition, palette and size as the photograph, with brushwork that differs a little, as on every hand-painted canvas. Saying it up front saves a message later. Call it hand-painted to order, not a print and not your own work.

Order one piece to your own address before you launch: you can photograph the real canvas in your own light, feel the texture and write the listing from the object.

Which size and finish options should each listing offer?

Offer three sizes from the work's own size list and three finishes, rolled, stretched and framed, except on plaster and relief works, which list stretched or framed only.

Each work's page lists the sizes it is painted in, from 61 × 51 cm (24 × 20 in) to two metres and more on the long side. A small, a medium and a large keep the choice easy; any other size is quoted when a customer asks, with the composition redrawn to fit.

FinishYour customer receivesShippingOn the listing
RolledThe canvas unstretched, for a local framerA light tube: the lowest cost, the quickest dispatchYour entry price
StretchedThe canvas on stretcher bars, ready to hangA flat box the size of the canvas: costs moreThe ready-to-hang middle option
FramedFramed in gold, silver, black, white or wood, with hooksThe largest box: the highest cost, and framing adds timeThe premium variant

Textured works list differently. 3D plaster, deep relief and the heaviest palette-knife work, such as TA#929 shown here, would crack in a tube, so offer them stretched or framed; each work's page says which finishes it ships in. If a customer would rather save on shipping, the texture can be built thinner so it rolls, agreed with us before painting.

What processing time should an art dropshipping listing show?

Show about 10 days to paint as your processing time, then 5–7 days of express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS, so the delivery estimate your store prints is one you can keep.

Store platforms usually split the delivery promise into processing and shipping time, which is how the order runs here: the painting, then the courier. Three things add days:

  • Approvals. Each stage waits for a yes. Approve the stage photos yourself and the painting keeps moving; if your customer approves them, allow for their reply time.
  • Custom variants. Unlisted sizes, colour changes and paintings from a customer's photo get their own date in the quote; mark them "date confirmed at order".
  • Several pieces for one customer usually travel together, leaving when the last one is approved.

For Christmas, Mother's Day or Valentine's Day, count back from the arrival date: the shipping days, the painting days, then a day or two for approvals. Publish a last order date a little earlier than the sum.

How do I price hand-painted art dropshipping when shipping varies?

Have each code, size and finish quoted once before you list, then add your margin and a shipping charge per finish and region; we confirm the exact shipping cost before each piece ships.

The piece
Priced by size, surface and finish. Send the codes, sizes and finishes you plan to list and you will usually have the figures within one business day: one sheet to price every variant against.
Shipping
Quoted separately, because it depends on the finish and the address. We book the best route for each order and confirm the cost with you before dispatch. Charge shipping by region, or fold an average into the price, with rolled as your lowest rate.
Cash flow
Each order is paid in two halves: 50% against a proforma invoice when you place it, 50% once you approve the final photograph, before shipping. Your customer has normally paid you at checkout, so no money sits in stock.
Volume
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces; when your orders reach that level, ask us to requote your range.

How does one customer order run, from your checkout to their door?

In six steps, and you see the painting at every stage before it moves on.

  1. Your customer checks outThey pick the work, size and finish on your listing, and pay you.
  2. You send us the orderCode, size, finish, any colour note, your customer's name, address and phone, and your order number, on WhatsApp or by email.
  3. Painted in stagesPhotos or video at each stage; the painter continues once you approve, or once your customer does.
  4. The final photographThe finished canvas, for you to approve and send your customer: their painting, ready to travel.
  5. Shipped to your customerWe confirm the shipping cost with you and book DHL, FedEx or UPS express to their address.
  6. Tracking to youThe tracking number comes to you as the parcel leaves, quoting your order number, for your store to pass on.

What returns policy should a made-to-order art store set?

Build it around the approval photograph: finished pieces are approved before dispatch and are final from then on, so tell customers before they pay that each painting is made for them, and what happens if one arrives damaged.

Finished pieces are not returnable to us, so your store's policy is yours to set, and it works best read before checkout. Cover four points:

  • Change of mind. Any change-of-mind return you offer is yours to absorb. If you offer none, say so on the listing and say why: the painting is made for that customer alone.
  • The approval photograph. Offer customers the photo of their finished painting before it ships, so they know exactly what is coming when the box opens.
  • Screens and brushwork. Colours shift a little between screens and daylight, and brushwork varies from the listing photo.
  • Your rules. Check what your marketplace and the consumer rules in your customers' countries require for made-to-order goods, and word the policy to fit.

If a parcel arrives damaged. It is rare: our return rate is under 0.01%, thanks to careful packing and trusted carriers. Your customer photographs the box and the painting, keeps both and sends you the photos; you forward them to us, and we take the claim up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund. Link your policy to the logistics page for the full steps.

Can I sell custom paintings from a customer's own photo?

Yes: a painting of your customer's dog, house, wedding or favourite view, from their own photo, makes a premium listing, painted by hand at the size they choose.

Your customer uploads the photo with the order and you forward it with the size and the manner they picked: loose and impressionist for places, close and detailed for people and pets, bright and simple for a playful portrait. We say what can be painted from the photo before quoting, and the composition is approved before paint goes on; paintings from your own image explains what makes a good photo.

On a custom listing, say that the photo must be the customer's own or used with permission (a wedding photographer's picture usually belongs to the photographer) and that each piece is quoted with its own price and date.

White label artwork for interior e-commerce platforms: how does a range work?

A platform selects a range from the catalogue by its tags, sells it under its own name, and sends us each order directly, with volumes and dates agreed in writing.

Furniture and interiors platforms buy a range rather than a piece: a category manager chooses fifty or two hundred works, loads them once and forwards orders as they arrive. A retailer selling from a shop floor will find more on the furniture showrooms page.

A first eight listings in three looks: garden, coast and calm modern

An illustrative launch range of catalogue works, not a client's shop. Each piece is painted only when a customer orders it.

Art dropshipping: questions online sellers ask

Which countries can you dropship paintings to?

We ship worldwide by DHL, FedEx or UPS express, choosing the best route for each address. If most of your customers are in one or two countries, ask us for typical shipping costs there for each finish before you set your rates: a rolled canvas and a large framed piece cost very different amounts to send.

Can I sell paintings made by a supplier on Etsy, Amazon or Wayfair?

Each marketplace sets its own rules on who must make an item listed as handmade and how outside makers are disclosed, and those rules change. Read each marketplace's current seller policy before you choose where to list. Wherever you sell, describe the work accurately: an original painted by hand to order.

Will the parcel show my store's name or yours?

Tell us how you want your orders to arrive when you first get in touch, and we will explain what the parcel and its packaging can carry for your store before your first order ships. The painting itself is unsigned, so nothing on the canvas competes with your brand.

Can I offer a matching pair or a set of three on one listing?

Yes. A work can be painted as a pair or a set: one composition carried across two or three canvases, or related pieces varied from one design so they belong together without repeating (see custom routes). Sell the set as one variant; the pieces are quoted together and usually travel in one shipment.

Can I order oil paintings instead of acrylic?

Yes. Acrylic on canvas is the standard and dries quickly; oil paint is available on request, with softer blends and a deeper sheen. Oil takes longer to dry, so mark oil variants as having their own date, and we set it when we quote.

Can my customer ask for changes while the painting is in progress?

Yes, at the stage photos. If your customer wants a warmer sky or a lighter background, pass it on when the stage arrives and the painter adjusts before going further. Early changes are the easiest, so forward the first stage quickly.

Can I sell designs that no other store has?

Yes, through art made for your shop: a series designed around your store's look, or a catalogue work varied into a new composition. Ask for exclusivity when you request the quote, and it is settled before painting starts; how far the design work goes depends on your range and budget.
