Art for hotels and restaurants in Qatar, from lobby to guest room

iHomeArt paints art for hotels and restaurants in Qatar by hand and to order: original canvases for lobbies, guest rooms, corridors, serviced apartments and dining rooms in Doha, Lusail and The Pearl, sized and coloured for each space. With few new hotels left to open, the work now is refreshing the rooms built for the World Cup and filling the walls around the Qatari artists at the heart of Doha's hotel collections.

Do Qatar's hotels hang Qatari artists, and where does painted-to-order art fit?

Yes: Doha's flagship openings built their collections around Qatari and Doha-based artists, and the sensible split gives the key walls to those artists and has every other wall painted to order in the same palette.

Qatar's best-known hotel collections are local by design. The Ned Doha opened with more than 350 works by 95 artists, 61 of them living in Doha and 51 Qatari, and 60 of the works were commissioned for the building. Rosewood Doha hung Yasser Al Mulla's landscapes in its suites and residences and Azzam Al-Mannai's underwater and wildlife photography in its public areas, and Four Seasons Doha kept the Qatari art from its owner's collection through its 2020 redesign.

A collection like that sets the tone and still leaves hundreds of walls: the second wall of each suite, the corridors and lift lobbies, the spa, the restaurants. That is where we fit. Whether you are the consultant, the FF&E buyer or the owner's team, we paint those canvases to your palette and sizes, so they sit beside the headline pieces rather than compete with them. More on art production for art consultants.

Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.

How do you refresh the art in a Doha hotel that opened for the World Cup?

Room type by room type: keep the pieces that still work, repaint the rest to the new palette, and time it so refreshed floors are back on sale before the busy weeks.

Qatar's hotel building boom is largely over. The construction pipeline had fallen to 11 projects and 2,170 rooms by the end of 2025, while the stock reached 42,131 hotel and serviced-apartment keys by June 2026, with five-star keys still rising and four-star supply shrinking. Much of the art bought in the next few years will go into rooms that already exist. Mandarin Oriental, Doha showed one way in October 2025, re-dressing four rooms and suites for a year in a London fabric house's florals.

Time the work to the calendar: visitor numbers are rebuilding around the race weekends and the 2030 Asian Games, and the next Art Basel Qatar runs 28–30 January 2027. Photograph one room of each type and tell us what stays; we suggest replacements in the new palette, and you can rehang floor by floor, so only a few rooms are out of order at a time.

How big should hotel lobby art be in Doha and Lusail?

Bigger than the reception desk suggests: under a ceiling of seven metres or more, a single canvas usually needs to be 2.5 metres or wider, or a set of panels hung as one.

Doha's newer hotels are built tall. The lobby lounge at Waldorf Astoria Lusail rises seven metres under a peacock ceiling, and the Katara Hall ballroom at Raffles Doha has 22-metre ceilings. Qatar Museums has placed public art at that scale in hotels: Martin Creed's neon '1361' runs 49.5 metres through Sheraton Hall. The largest canvas published from The Ned Doha's collection measures 170 × 235 cm.

Size the lobby wall from the entrance, not from the desk: a painting chosen standing at reception looks small from the door. Under a tall ceiling, a canvas of 2.5 metres or wider, a tall pair in a column bay or a triptych behind the desk holds the room. Send us the wall with its width, the ceiling height and the route in through the service lift; we assess it and suggest the size, format and finish. Room-by-room sizes are in the Qatar size guide; works for the space are under lobby and reception art.

Which wall takes the painting in a Doha guest room?

Often not the one above the bed: many Doha rooms already dress the headboard wall in fabric, mosaic or wallpaper, so the painting goes on the desk, lounge or entrance wall, in tones taken from that finish.

Look at the room first. The Ned Doha's rooms have mirrored fabric headboards; Fairmont Doha's are finished in gold mosaic tiling with curved walls; Raffles Doha's suites carry a gallery wall of books; and Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay uses embossed wallpaper in its rooms and a full-height wall of carved plaster in Peacock Alley. Where the finish is already rich, the painting goes on the quieter wall and borrows its colours; where the walls are plain, texture does the work. Spas follow the same rule: the Four Seasons at The Pearl lines its spa in patterned marble mosaic, so calm, textured canvases go where the stone stops.

The Ned hung some 350 works across 90 rooms and its public spaces, and Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers holds about 8,000 pieces in rooms, corridors and public areas, made on the principle that 'art in a hotel cannot be random'. In corridors, one composition painted in palette variations, floor by floor, holds the scheme together without hanging the same canvas twice. More on guest-room programmes and corridor art.

Which colours and subjects suit art for hotels and restaurants in Qatar?

The property's own story, which in Qatar is usually told in sea, pearl and desert light: blues, creams and sand with gold, Sadu geometry and maroon as accents, and no figures or nudity in public rooms.

Doha's hotel designers start from a story and the palette follows. Rosewood Doha drew on coral formations and pearl diving, in cool and warm tones, and describes its art as 'abstract expressions of desert light or photographic moments drawn from the coast'. Four Seasons Doha set its guest rooms in blues and beige for sky, sea, sand and earth, while Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay goes cooler, with pale blue accents in its rooms and platinum and jade-green panels in its ballrooms.

Heritage supplies the accents. Swissôtel's programme drew on Sadu weaving, whose narrow bands run in black, white, brown, beige and red, and maroon is Qatar's national colour. Sea, dunes, pearls, palms and geometry suit lobbies and rooms alike. Keep figures to private suites, if anywhere, and leave nudity out entirely: in 2013 Qatar Museums covered and then removed two nude statues from an exhibition, citing community standards. What restaurant wall art works in Doha's dining rooms and bars?

Art drawn into the concept from the start: one long-wall piece or a series in one hand, hung for seated diners, chosen for evening light, and on canvas so it can move if the concept changes.

Much of Doha's best dining sits inside its hotels. Alba, one of three restaurants with a star in the MICHELIN Guide Doha 2026, is at Raffles Doha, and The Ned runs seven restaurants. The art is planned with the room: Millie's Grill at The Ned hangs 46 drawings by Noof Al Naama as one series, and the café by the lobby a single work by Sophie Al Marri. At La Méditerranée, in the Four Seasons on The Pearl, an ocean-creature mural was the backdrop of an award-winning dining room that has since closed.

Decide the format with the designer: one wide piece on the long wall, read from the tables, or a run of matching canvases above a banquette. Grills and bars are lit low, and a dark ground with warm colour holds up better there than a pale abstract. Canvases also move: when a concept changes, a series can go on to the group's next site, where a mural stays behind. See restaurant wall art.

What do serviced apartments in Qatar need from their art?

A home-like set for each unit type, the same in every unit of that type, labelled by unit so a whole building can be hung in one pass.

Serviced apartments are the fastest-growing part of Qatar's stock: 11,003 keys at the end of June 2026, up 9.6% in a year. Many sit inside hotel towers, such as Rosewood Doha's 162 serviced apartments and Mandarin Oriental's 91, and operators sell weekly and monthly stays. Guests who stay for weeks live with the walls, so the art should feel like a home: a horizontal canvas over the sofa, a calm piece in the bedroom, one more by the entrance.

Plan a pack for each unit type. We label every canvas by unit and position, with a packing list, so the building can be hung in one pass. More on art for serviced apartments and, for the private homes in the same towers, villas and apartments in Qatar.

How does a hotel or restaurant in Qatar work with iHomeArt?

Mostly on WhatsApp: send the room schedule, wall photos and the designer's palette, approve each stage from photographs, and choose a finish that suits the route and the building.

Qatar's trade already runs on WhatsApp, the most used platform among Qatari nationals. Send the room schedule or plans, a photo of each wall with its width and ceiling height, and the palette or mood board. We suggest designs from some 1,300 in the catalogue or design pieces for your project, including a crest or a view of the property painted from your own image, and your quote, priced for the sizes and finishes, usually arrives within one business day. Stage photographs go straight to whoever approves, whether the designer, the owner's representative or the general manager, and the next stage starts only on their yes.

Choose the finish for the route. The wider picture is in our Qatar wall art guide.

Art for hotels and restaurants in Qatar FAQs

Can you paint Arabic calligraphy or a hotel's crest for a lobby in Doha?

Yes. For a verse or a name, start from a calligrapher's own artwork, used with their permission, so the letterforms are right before any paint goes on, and have a native reader check the stage photographs. For the hotel's logo, crest or a pattern from its brand book, send us the file with the wall size: we assess it and suggest the size, format and finish.

Can you paint a Qatari artist's work at a larger size for a hotel?

While the work is in copyright, only with the rights holder's permission, so agree it with the artist or their representative first. With that permission in writing, we paint a hand-painted reproduction at the size your wall needs. Without it, send us the image you admire: we suggest catalogue designs in the same spirit, or design a new piece in your palette.

Can we approve one room before ordering art for the whole hotel?

Yes. The minimum order is one piece, so a sample is simply a first order: we paint the art for one mock-up room, you see it on the wall, and the rest of that room type follows in the same hand and palette, each piece checked against the one you approved. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces.

What if a canvas in a guest room is damaged after opening?

Send us its code. We keep the code, size and palette of every piece on file, so the same design can be painted again in the same colours, with stage photographs as before, and labelled for its room.

How long does hotel art take to reach Doha or Lusail?

About 10 days to paint, then 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Doha, Lusail, The Pearl or anywhere else in Qatar. A large hotel order may travel by air or sea freight instead; we find the best route for your address and confirm the shipping cost before dispatch, so plan it back from your opening or refresh date.

How do hotels in Qatar pay for an art order?

Half upfront against a proforma invoice, so painting can start, and the other half once you approve the photograph of the finished pieces, before they ship. Each order is priced for its sizes and finishes, volume pricing starts at ten pieces, and your quote usually arrives within one business day of your message on WhatsApp, through the quote form or by email.
