Hotel wall art in Oman, from Muscat's coast to Salalah's palms
iHomeArt paints hotel wall art for Oman by hand and to order: lobby canvases, corridor and guest-room series, resort-villa sets and restaurant walls for properties in Muscat, Salalah, Jebel Akhdar and beyond, each painted to the size of its wall. Oman's newest hotels take their art from the landscape outside, so this page follows a property space by space: what each wall needs, how many pieces to plan per key, and how to order them.

Coast, mountain or Dhofar: what should hotel wall art in Oman show?
The setting outside the window: sea blues, sand and pale stone on the Muscat coast, the rust, slate and rose of Jebel Akhdar, and the greens of Salalah's palms, with Omani craft reinterpreted rather than copied.
Oman's recent openings write their art brief from the landscape. The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat was dressed in oceanic tones, tan and local stone. Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar, about 2,000 metres up, takes its décor from the colours and textures of the mountains, and Jumeirah Muscat Bay calls its interiors a 'modern arabesque' of local colours, textures and patterns. Start your brief from the setting:
| Setting | Palette | Subjects that fit |
|---|---|---|
| The Muscat coast: Al Mouj, Qurum, Bandar Al Khairan, Yiti | Sea blue, turquoise, sand, white stone | Seascapes, dhows, calm abstraction |
| Jebel Akhdar and the interior | Rust, ochre, slate, rose pink | Terraces, rock texture, the rose harvest, night skies |
| Salalah and Dhofar | Palm green, white, sea blue | Coconut groves, beaches, the green hills of the khareef |
| City hotels in Muscat | Sand and gold, jewel accents | Muttrah, forts, geometry from silver and plasterwork |
Any catalogue design can be resized and recoloured to the scheme; more palettes are in Omani taste and styles.
Which Omani motifs suit a hotel's walls, and what stays out of its public rooms?
Doors, silver, weaving and plasterwork, translated into abstraction, geometry and texture, suit every space; nudity stays out of all of them, and figures and verses need a deliberate choice of wall.
Mandarin Oriental, Muscat runs one heritage thread through the building: carved Omani doors at the entrance, headboards shaped on the kuma cap and brass lanterns that recall the khanjar, and in the lobby a sculpture of woven brass and bronze strips in the manner of Al Sadu weaving. Engraved silver and gypsum plasterwork of triangles and circles laced with plant motifs complete the traditional vocabulary; on canvas they become a gold-and-black abstract with the sheen of silver, or a plaster relief in sand tones.
Figures are not ruled out: the same lobby shows an Omani painter's friezes of people in local dress. But many of Muscat's younger painters work in abstraction, in line with an Islamic tradition of not depicting people or animals, and one of Oman's best-known artists is described as controversial for her portrayal of women. Keep figurative work for a named artist's lobby piece, chosen with the owner; corridors, rooms and restaurants are best served by landscape, sea, flowers, geometry and abstraction.
Verses and calligraphy
Start from a calligrapher's own artwork, used with permission, have a native reader check the stage photographs, and give a Quranic verse a calm, respected wall, never a bar.
Nothing explicit in public space
Rule out nudity in the brief from the first meeting, so no canvas has to be swapped at handover.
How large should hotel wall art be in an Omani lobby, bar or ballroom foyer?
Large enough to read from the entrance: usually 250 cm or more, or a two- or three-panel set, on the one wall guests face as they arrive, and mural scale where a bar or foyer gives you a long, unbroken wall.
Omani lobbies are full of architecture before any art arrives: Mandarin Oriental's has three fountains and chandelier beams hung with coloured crystal lanterns. Size the canvas to the free wall that faces the arrival, often behind reception, rather than to the room; in a space this busy, anything under about two metres disappears. Bars and ballrooms offer the longest walls: the St. Regis Al Mouj hangs a large mural of Muttrah by the Omani painter Hassan Meer in its bar, and Mövenpick Ghala's pillar-free ballroom covers 630 m².
The lobby is also where hotels show an Omani name. In October 2025 Aloft Muscat turned its lobby into a live painting studio for the veteran painter Anwar Sonya, its general manager calling local-artist programmes a social responsibility. Give one wall to an Omani artist, found through a gallery or the Muscat Art fair, and have the other large walls (reception backdrop, lift lobbies, ballroom foyer) painted to order in the same palette. How many paintings does a resort villa, cottage or serviced apartment need?
Count by unit type, not by key: one or two pieces in a standard room, two or three in a villa or cottage, and three to five in a serviced apartment.
Oman's new resorts are built around villas and cottages as much as rooms. Anantara Bandar Al Khairan's 121 keys include 46 cottages and 24 villas, and Nikki Beach at Yiti Bay is planned with 140 rooms and suites plus 30 private-pool villas. A villa adds a living room and often a dining corner to the bedroom, so it takes two or three canvases; Bandar Al Khairan's star-gazing pavilion even suggests a subject for them.
Hotels with residences add apartments: Mövenpick Ghala opened in 2024 with 282 rooms and suites and 58 apartments, and Tivoli La Vie Muscat pairs about 80 rooms with 100 serviced apartments. An apartment is a small home for a long stay: choose calm subjects that wear well over weeks. Build the schedule by unit type, one design family per type in a few palette variations so that neighbouring units differ; each canvas is labelled with its unit and position and listed on a packing list. How do you plan a corridor and spa series on one Omani theme?
Choose one story from the place, paint it as a family of related canvases in one palette and one or two sizes, and hang them at a steady rhythm, so every floor feels connected and no two pieces are copies.
Mandarin Oriental, Muscat lines its guest corridors with pastel-pink oil paintings of the rose harvest on Jebel Akhdar: one regional story, carried from floor to floor. Others work the same way: dhows for a coastal property, palm groves and falaj channels for the interior, frankincense trees for Dhofar. Keep one or two sizes and one hanging height, but vary each composition, so the walk to the room reads as a sequence, not a repeat; a larger piece from the same family in each lift lobby helps guests tell the floors apart.
The spa is the quietest chapter of the story. Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar gives its spa 3,000 m²; in treatment rooms and lounges, texture, low contrast and natural tones (rust, sand, stone, one pale bloom) work better than strong colour. More on hotel corridor art and art for spas.
What restaurant wall art suits Muscat's independent restaurants and cafés?
One strong canvas sized to the main wall, or a short set along the banquette, in colours that hold under low, warm light, chosen while the fit-out is still being designed.
Many of Muscat's best-known hotel restaurants arrive with their interiors decided: Hakkasan at the St. Regis Al Mouj, the group's twelfth, is built to its own house design. Independents, which take more than half of Oman's foodservice revenue by one 2025 market report, choose their own.
Timing matters more than budget. One Muscat fit-out firm puts a standard office fit-out at two to four months, three to six weeks of it design and approvals: choose the art in those first weeks, while the wall, its lighting and the joinery can still be planned together. A Muscat interiors firm reports 2025 palettes of terracotta, sand, olive and warm neutrals, with emerald, sapphire or deep rust as accents; a dining-room canvas can carry the accent the upholstery cannot. Heavily textured work catches low light well and travels stretched or framed. More on restaurant wall art and art for restaurants and bars.
Opening a resort in Salalah, Jebel Akhdar or Duqm: what changes for the art?
The planning more than the paintings: order the whole property together, choose finishes that arrive ready to hang, and treat each resort as its own order, with codes kept for the next.
Much of Oman's new supply sits far from Muscat. Salalah is getting Oman's first Rixos and five TUI properties with about 2,000 rooms, and Duqm a large mixed-use scheme. Muriya plans about 1,000 more rooms at Hawana Salalah and Jebel Sifah over three to five years, and OMRAN lists a Club Med in Musandam among its projects.
Far from the capital there is no art shop round the corner if a piece is missing at handover, so send the full schedule at once, with one sample first if you want it; canvases ship straight to the property. A group opening several resorts orders each one separately, and the codes we keep on file let the next repeat or vary the series.
How do hotels and restaurants in Oman work with iHomeArt?
Through whoever holds the art line (designer, FF&E buyer, consultant or owner): send the schedule or a photo of each wall, approve a sample and every stage from photographs, and receive canvases labelled for their rooms.
The interiors of Oman's large hotels are often drawn abroad, Mandarin Oriental's by the French designer Xavier Cartron, while Muscat's interior studios and fit-out firms seldom mention art among their services. The art line is easy to lose between design and handover, so give it an owner early, whether that is the designer, the FF&E buyer or an art consultant.
Send the FF&E schedule, the drawings or a photo and width of each wall: we price each line, usually within one business day, suggest designs from some 1,300 in the catalogue or design pieces for the scheme, and paint one sample first if you want it; a logo, crest or view of the property can be painted from your own image. Stage photographs or video go straight to whoever approves, and the next stage starts only after a yes. More in the Oman wall art guide.
Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.
Hotel wall art in Oman FAQs
When should a hotel in Oman order its art?
At design approval, not after the fit-out. Allow for one sample and its approval, then about 10 days to paint and 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS express to Muscat, Salalah, Jebel Akhdar or Duqm. Large orders may go by air or sea freight instead, on the route we find best, with the cost confirmed before dispatch.
Can you paint our hotel's logo, crest or a calligraphy panel for the lobby?
Yes. Send the logo, crest or brand pattern you own or have permission to use, or a calligrapher's artwork for a verse or a name, with the wall size, and we suggest the size, format and finish it paints best at. Ask a native reader to check calligraphy in the stage photographs, and tell us if the design should stay exclusive to your property.
We are rebranding or converting a hotel in Muscat. Can you paint to the existing wall sizes?
Yes. Conversions are part of Oman's pipeline: Hilton is turning its clifftop Muscat hotel into Waldorf Astoria Muscat. Send the existing art schedule, or a photo and measurement of each wall, and we paint the new brand's series to those sizes, so the walls and their lighting can stay as they are.
How are hotel and restaurant orders priced and paid?
Each line is priced for its size and finish, and volume pricing starts at ten pieces, which suits a room schedule ordered together. You pay 50% upfront against a proforma invoice and 50% once you approve the photographs of the finished pieces, before shipping; quotes usually arrive within one business day.
What if a canvas arrives damaged at a resort in Salalah or Jebel Akhdar?
It is rare: under 0.01% of pieces. Send us photographs of the canvas and its packaging, and we take the claim up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund. Finished pieces are not returnable, because each one is painted to order and approved from a photograph before it ships.
How should canvases be cared for in a beach resort or a busy restaurant?
Hang them out of direct sun and away from air-conditioning outlets, kitchen doors and outside walls that turn damp. Acrylic on canvas, our standard, copes well with coastal air; oil is available on request. Housekeeping needs only a dry cloth for dusting, and no sprays or cleaning products should touch the paint.
