A white lotus opens wide in the middle of a sunset-coloured canvas, its yellow heart glowing beneath a slim closed bud on a tall, dark stem. Behind it a smoky grey lotus leaf curls across the upper half like a wind-caught fan, and at lower right a pale teal seed pod stands on its own stalk, pitted with dark seed holes.

The orange at the top fades to beige and almost cream below, where three bare green stems run into calm, empty ground. The leaf is the loosest passage, streaky greys with white along its ribs; the petals are smoother, outlined in fine grey.
