Ivory shell disc and spiral relief canvas painting

Two sets of ivory ridges ripple outward like rings in sand, one from the lower left corner and one from the upper right, and between them a broad band of overlapping shell discs sweeps diagonally across the canvas. The discs are pearly white, beige and silver-grey, laid like fish scales and piled thickest at the middle of the band.

The rings are combed into raised plaster in tight concentric lines, with faint threads of gold and tan in the grooves and a warmer, sandy tone at each centre. Almost everything is white on white, so the contrast comes from surface alone: chalky ridged plaster against the glint of shell.
