About this painting

Blush-pink and white peonies crowd the right half of a pale grey canvas, their petals sculpted in thick layers that curl back on one another like the real flower.

The left half is almost empty: a few bare brown twigs reach into it, dotted with small gold flecks, and fine raised white lines drift across the grey like threads of wind. Gold gathers again at the flower centres and in soft patches above the blooms, while sage and deep green leaves tuck in along the bottom edge.
