About this painting

A block of rust-brown sits over a black square filled with fine white arcs, the two halves split by a thin wood-toned line across the middle of the canvas.

The arcs spread out from a point at the centre of that line like ripples, and their tight spacing gives the lower half a slight optical shimmer. A fine outlined rectangle crosses both blocks, offset to the left, while a cream margin along the left and bottom edges stops the design from feeling boxed in. The rust panel is softly mottled, closer to suede than to flat colour, which warms up an otherwise strict geometry.
