About this painting

One chalk-white line, with no fill or shading, draws a tall rounded vessel across a deep chocolate-brown field. A straight stroke drops through the middle from rim to base and splits the form in two: a pointed shoulder and a hollow curve on the left, and on the right a full arc that swells outward, steps back in at mid-height and is doubled by a second line along its edge.

The brown is brushed thinly in vertical passes, so faint streaks and the canvas weave show through. The line wavers and thins in places, plainly drawn by hand.
