Six gaunt ink figures stand shoulder to shoulder across the top of a white canvas, their legs melting into long black drips that run down most of its height. They are drawn in a broken, nervous outline, with grey wash shading the bare, bony bodies and faces reduced to dark eye hollows and a mouth.

The drips vary in length and all stop short of the bottom, leaving a band of untouched white beneath them. Nothing else is on the canvas: the bare white is as much a part of the picture as the figures, and the repetition of six near-identical bodies gives the image its uneasy pull.
