About this painting

A humpback whale rises head-first out of black water, its pale throat and long pectoral fin dragged on in broad white knife strokes that catch the light against the dark ground.

Its body runs off the right edge before the tail ever appears, which makes the animal feel larger than the picture can hold. Grey is used sparingly, mostly in the shadowed flank and the grooves under the jaw, and a scatter of tiny white bubble rings drifts to the left of the head. The whole left half stays empty black, and that emptiness is what gives the whale its scale.

MA#101 is an original minimalist animal painting showing white knife-stroke humpback whale rising on a black field with bubbles, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

The black ground acts like a dark window cut into the wall, so it needs a lighter surround to keep its edges: pale limestone, white oak, polished concrete or soft grey plaster. In a spa, hang it opposite the relaxation loungers, where guests lying back look up at the whale as it climbs. On a gallery or showroom wall, one picture light tilted from above makes the white strokes gleam like wet skin.

Specified for gallery & retail, lobby & reception, spa & wellness and living room; it reads as dramatic and moody.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for MA#101 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on MA#101 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Why is the whale's tail missing in MA#101?

The body simply continues past the right edge of the canvas. Showing only the head, throat and fin keeps the whale close and huge, as if seen by a diver just beneath it, and leaves the left half free as open water.

Will MA#101 work on a wall that is already dark?

Only with its own light. On charcoal or black panelling the black ground disappears into the panelling, leaving the white whale floating free, which can be striking under a dedicated spot. On mid-grey or white, the dark rectangle stays visible and the effect is calmer.

Is MA#101 a print or an original painting?

An original. MA#101 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of MA#101 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
