About this painting

A red-bearded man in a pale grey felt hat stares straight out, his face built from short strokes of yellow, green and orange laid side by side.

Around his head the blue background circles in a halo of dashes, with flecks of rust and orange between them, and the same rhythm continues into the blue coat, where lighter strokes trace the lapels. A white collar and cream cravat give the only quiet area. Every mark is ridged and directional, so the surface carries as much tension as the stare. It follows a well-known post-impressionist self-portrait from the 1880s.

IA#186 is an original impressionist figurative painting showing Van Gogh self-portrait in a grey felt hat on a swirling blue ground, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

The blue ground is saturated, so give it a wall that does not compete: warm white, stone, or dark mahogany panelling in a library or wine bar where wood and brass already sit. The face fills the upper half and the gaze is direct, so place it where people linger: beside a bar counter, over a reading chair, behind a desk. Orange leather, rust velvet or a copper lamp pick up the beard.

Specified for gallery & retail, restaurant & bar, entryway & hallway and home office; it reads as moody and dramatic.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for IA#186 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on IA#186 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Why does the background of IA#186 swirl around the head?

The dashes are laid in curves that circle the head, so the background behaves like a halo of movement and pushes all attention onto the face. The orange flecks scattered through the blue echo the beard, tying figure and ground together in the manner of the late-1880s work it follows.

How does the ridged texture of IA#186 look in side light?

Raking light turns every stroke into a short raised ridge, so the swirls around the hat and the hatching across the face cast tiny shadows and the surface looks almost woven. Under flat overhead light it calms down and the colour does the work.

Is IA#186 a print or an original painting?

An original. IA#186 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of IA#186 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
