Chestnut brown and cream curved plaster canvas painting

Two broad cream bands sweep down from the top left and widen across the bottom right, held apart by a thin chestnut stripe and pressed against a heavy chestnut field that fills the upper right. None of it is knife-ridged; the plaster is creased in fine wrinkles running the length of each band, like linen crushed and then pulled straight.

In the brown field the creases are deeper and arc with the edge of the cream, so the dark area looks like folded leather. With only two colours in play, that narrow brown stripe is what keeps the cream bands from merging.

The creases are shallow, so grazing light from a ceiling wall washer brings them out; under one downlight aimed straight at it the surface looks almost smooth.
