About this painting

A bank of crimson and magenta roses climbs the left edge and spills across the bottom of the canvas, framing a pink sea lit by a single gold sun path. The water is the surprise: instead of blue it is laid in horizontal strokes of rose, coral and white, with a vertical streak of yellow dropping from the horizon.

Overhead, heaped clouds in periwinkle and lilac carry flushes of pink, so sky and sea share the same warmth. The roses hold the heaviest paint, each bloom a raised swirl of red over thick green leaf.
