About this painting

A single figure in a dark green top stands on warm yellow sand at the water's edge, facing a teal sea that glitters with hundreds of white flecks of sun.

No horizon is shown. The water runs off the top of the canvas and fills about three quarters of it, and the sparkles fall from the upper edge in a loose column that narrows towards the figure. Each glint is a separate flat dab of off-white over short strokes of darker teal; the sand is left almost bare, broken only by the figure's grey shadow.

Who is the person standing on the beach?

Nobody in particular. The figure is seen from behind, with no face and almost no detail, just a dark head and a green top. That anonymity lets a guest picture themselves on the sand, so the scene feels private rather than like a portrait of someone.
