Curling teal white and gold wave swirl impasto acrylic painting

A breaking wave folds into a spiral right of centre, its innermost curl picked out in a hook of mustard gold. Around it, bands of teal, navy and white sweep in long arcs from the top corner to the base, and a wider gold stripe follows the outside of the turn like the lip of the wave.

The paint goes on with a knife and is left heaped. White is thickest at the eye of the spiral and in the foam at lower right, where it stands in crests, while the teal passages are scraped thinner. Narrow charcoal streaks near the top stop the pale colours from washing out.
