About this painting

Broad waves of gold-tan, cream, deep teal and near-black navy sweep across a square canvas on a falling diagonal, upper left to lower right, like layers of sand and water seen from the air. The upper half is light and warm, its cream bands combed with fine raised lines and touched with pale blue.

The lower left gathers into darker teal and navy swells with small gold flecks scattered through them. Every band is outlined by a sculpted ridge, so its edge stands up from the canvas, and the gold-toned bands carry a soft sheen that changes as you move past.

Is AA#952 a seascape or pure abstraction?

Both readings hold. The curving bands suggest wet sand, shallows and deep water seen from above, so it sits comfortably in a coastal scheme, but there is no horizon, boat or figure to fix it to a place. Treated as abstract, it is simply colour and movement in a warm-to-cool sweep.

Can AA#952 be hung with a different side at the top?
