About this painting

A small black bird stands at the top of a thin ink line that cuts diagonally down the canvas to the bottom right corner, its tail cocked to the left and its beak turned the other way.

The line is dragged rather than drawn: it thickens into knots and frays at the edges, like a crack across ice or a twig half under water. Around it the beige ground is scored with fine horizontal dry-brush streaks of grey, heaviest along the top and left side, thinning to bare cream at lower left. The bird sits a third of the way down, with nothing to compete with it.

WA#009 is an original wabi-sabi animal painting showing small black bird perched on a thin ink branch over a beige dry-brush field, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

The bird is small, so it rewards a wall seen from close range: beside a headboard, above a writing desk, or at a corridor turn where guests pass within arm's length. The diagonal falls toward the lower right, so hang it to the left of whatever it accompanies and let the line lead there. Pale ash, washi paper shades, unglazed stoneware and a little black iron echo its cream and ink. Keep the wall around it bare; a crowded gallery hang would swallow it.

Specified for guest room & suite, corridor & circulation, bedroom and home office; it reads as peaceful and calming.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for WA#009 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Flat brushwork takes less paint and time than impasto or relief work of the same size.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on WA#009 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Is the bird in WA#009 a magpie?

It is not drawn closely enough to name. The long tail, upright stance and lighter patch under the body suggest a magpie or a wagtail, and in East Asian painting a magpie is often read as a bringer of good news, but the species is left open.

What is the line under the bird in WA#009?

It is never defined: a single dry ink stroke, wide in places and broken in others. It can be read as a bare branch, a crack running across ice, or the edge of a shore, and the horizontal grey streaks around it hint at water or wind.

Is WA#009 a print or an original painting?

An original. WA#009 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of WA#009 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
