About this painting

A column of cream light rises through the middle of a charcoal canvas, brightest just above centre and fading to blue-black at both side edges and along the base.

The composition is almost symmetrical, which gives it the stillness of a lit doorway seen at night. Toward the bottom the cream warms into a sandy tan and bronze haze before the dark closes in again. The whole surface carries a fine grit, sanded rather than ridged, so the charcoal sides glint faintly like slate and the pale centre stays soft and powdery. Nothing interrupts the gradient: no line, no gesture, only light thinning into shadow.

WA#253 is an original wabi-sabi painting showing charcoal edges fading into a cream glowing centre, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

Near-symmetry asks for a centred position: the end of a corridor, the wall between two doors, or a timber-panelled niche above a low sofa, where warm oak sets off the cool charcoal. A single ceiling spot aimed at the upper middle makes the glow seem to come from inside the canvas. In a shop or gallery it is a quiet backdrop for a plinth or sculpture placed in front, its pale centre framing whatever stands there.

Specified for restaurant & bar, gallery & retail, entryway & hallway and living room; it reads as moody and dramatic.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for WA#253 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on WA#253 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Is the pale shape in WA#253 meant to be a doorway or a figure?

Neither, strictly. It is an abstract fall of light, and people read it their own way: a lit doorway, fog with a lamp behind it, dawn in a clearing. That openness helps in a lounge or retail space, where a fixed subject would date faster than a mood.

How does the grit on WA#253 look under a downlight?

It sparkles slightly. The sanded texture is shallow, so it does not cast shadows the way ridged paint does; instead a downlight picks out countless tiny points on the dark edges, and the cream centre turns chalky and matte. Across a room the surface reads as smooth.

Is WA#253 a print or an original painting?

An original. WA#253 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of WA#253 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
