About this painting

A slab of pale charcoal grey fills most of the canvas, pitted, crusted and torn at the edges like a section of old wall, with darker ground pressing in around it. Down the right side, a rust-brown band runs from top to bottom and seeps into the lower right corner, where the black is deepest.

The paint is heavy. Thick layers have been scraped and flaked, leaving craters and small black spatters across the grey, and a thin vertical crease climbs the right edge of the slab. Colour is almost absent; what holds the picture is the change from rough grey to the smoother near-black shadow beside it.

WA#282 is an original wabi-sabi painting showing heavily textured charcoal grey field with a rust brown weathered right edge, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

Dark as it is, it needs a lighter wall around it, such as warm putty, sand or pale clay plaster, so its edges stay crisp instead of sinking into the wall. In a bar or steakhouse it suits blackened steel, raw concrete and smoked oak; in a fashion or design store it makes a quiet backdrop for objects on a plinth in front. Leave at least an arm's length of bare wall on each side.

Specified for restaurant & bar, lobby & reception, gallery & retail and living room; it reads as moody and dramatic.

Pairs well with

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for WA#282 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on WA#282 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

What is the rust band on the right of WA#282?

It is a weathered strip of rust brown that runs the full height of the right edge and spreads into the lower corner. It reads like iron staining on stone or the scorch along a burnt board, and it is the only warm colour on a canvas otherwise charcoal and black.

Is WA#282 too dark for a low-lit restaurant or bar?

It can be, if it hangs in deep shadow. The pale grey slab carries enough light to register in a dim room, but the black edges need light on them too, so give it its own downlight or wall washer rather than relying on table lamps.

Is WA#282 a print or an original painting?

An original. WA#282 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of WA#282 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
