About this painting

A thick cream bank cuts diagonally across the canvas, its surface piled into layered ridges like windblown sand or a wave folding over itself, with pale sage fan shells massed along its upper edge.

Below it the ground drops into deep sea green scattered with dark grit and coarse specks, thickest toward the bottom right, much like wet sand at the water's edge. The fans are the most finely ribbed part, the bank the most deeply carved and the green the roughest, so each band has its own surface as well as its own colour.

What is the speckled green area at the bottom of TA#020?

It reads as wet sand or shallow water at a shoreline. The deep green is scattered with coarse dark grit and small raised specks, denser toward the lower right, which feels gritty against the smooth carved ridges of the cream bank above it.

Can TA#020 hang as a pair with TA#017?

Yes. The two share the same sage fans and cream relief but are composed differently: TA#017 has its dark corner at the top and a leaf along the base, while TA#020 carries its darkest green at the bottom. Side by side, the dark notes sit at opposite ends and balance each other.
