About this painting

A dozen or more koi in orange, white and deep red twist upward through the centre in a loose S-shaped column, as if the whole shoal is turning toward the surface. Each fish is a few quick palette-knife strokes: a white body, orange saddles, and on several a patch of dark red.

The ground splits on a diagonal, khaki sand at lower left and creamy white water at upper right, and the paint is chopped everywhere into short ridges like ripples. Tiny red and orange flecks are scattered through the white, so the fish seem to leave a trail.

TA#647 is an original textured animal painting showing shoal of orange and white koi in heavy knife impasto on a beige and white ground, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

Koi suit rooms with water nearby: the wall facing a spa plunge pool, a hotel bathroom with a long vanity, or the entrance of a restaurant where a tall, warm picture meets guests at the door. In a bathroom, hang it on the dry wall opposite the shower rather than beside it. The khaki and orange look best against chalk white, pale terrazzo or warm grey stone; a cool blue room makes the oranges louder.

Specified for spa & wellness, restaurant & bar, guest room & suite and bathroom; it reads as peaceful and uplifting.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for TA#647 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Because the surface is not rolled, the choice is between stretched, ready to hang, and stretched in a frame; a frame costs more.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on TA#647 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

What do koi usually symbolise in a painting like TA#647?

Koi are often read as symbols of perseverance and good fortune, after the old story of a carp swimming upstream against the current, and a shoal moving together is often linked with abundance. Here the fish climb the canvas in one twisting line, which suits that hopeful reading without labouring it.

Do the koi in TA#647 still read as fish when you stand right beside them?

Not entirely, and that is part of the appeal. Close to, the fish break apart into short raised flicks of paint, with white lifted over orange so scales and fins look wet. From a few metres back the strokes pull together into bodies and tails. That change rewards a wall people pass slowly, such as a spa corridor.

Is TA#647 a print or an original painting?

An original. TA#647 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of TA#647 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
