A white bird with wings spread wide flies through a dense net of bare black branches, the only light shape on a dark grey canvas. The tree climbs from a thick trunk at the bottom right and splits again and again until its twigs reach every corner, so the bird seems caught crossing a winter sky.

The bird is built up in thick white paint, feathers ridged along each wing, and stands out from the surface. Behind it the grey ground is rough and mottled, paler in the middle and darker toward the edges, while the branches lie on top in ink-black lines.
