About this painting

Two open wings face each other across a narrow gap at the centre of the canvas, their tips sweeping up towards the top corners as if about to lift.

Each feather is a separate raised stroke. The upper rows are gold and white, the middle rows turn peach, coral and rust, and the long flight feathers at the bottom fan out in slate blue-grey. Thin drips run down from the lowest feathers into a misty grey and cream ground that is otherwise left empty, so the wings stand clear. The gold has a soft sheen that shifts as you walk past.
