About this painting

A single lotus is drawn in fine pale gold lines on a deep ochre square, its petals opening like a star around a seed pod dotted with seeds.

Each petal is filled with close parallel strokes that follow its curve, so the flower is described entirely in line, with no shading or solid fill. One thin stem drops from the bloom and fades out before the lower edge.
