Pink water lilies open among rings of green pads across the lower half of a turquoise pond, while white clouds swirl over the open water above them. Each pad is a circle of thick curved strokes, mint at the rim and jade at the centre, and the small blossoms are tipped with white so they stand forward from the green.

Willow strands hang down both sides in long, wavering lines of green and teal, almost like rain. The cloud reflections in the centre are the boldest passage, heavy white and cream swirls over sky blue, so the brightest part of the picture is the water itself rather than the flowers.
