About this painting

A square-rigged ship under full white sail comes almost head on across a still grey sea, a small white disc of sun or moon hanging in apricot cloud behind it.

Everything is laid with a palette knife. The sails are flat slabs of white and silver-grey with sharp edges where the blade lifted away, and the sea is a mosaic of broken grey strokes. The hull is the darkest mass, navy with a rust-red bow, and its reflection shatters into flecks of yellow, red and black. Apart from that apricot glow, the palette stays close to monochrome.

IA#087 is an original impressionist seascape painting showing tall sailing ship on a calm grey sea under a pale moon, palette-knife handling, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

The near-monochrome palette suits grey, charcoal and white interiors that most colourful paintings fight with: a boardroom of dark oak and grey felt, a corridor in pale limestone, a guest room in navy and white. Because the ship sails toward the viewer, place it at the far end of a corridor or opposite a doorway so people walk toward its bow. The knife-cut sails stand off the surface, so keep it clear of chair backs and door swings.

Specified for corridor & circulation, guest room & suite, meeting & boardroom and entryway & hallway; it reads as moody and calming.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for IA#087 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on IA#087 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

What kind of ship is shown in IA#087?

A tall square-rigger, with tiers of square sails stacked on each mast and a triangular jib at the bow. No name, flag or port is painted, so it reads as a classic sailing ship of the age of sail and not as a likeness of any one historic vessel.

Why does the sea in IA#087 look broken into pieces?

Each pass of the knife leaves a flat, angular patch, and the sea is built from hundreds of them in greys, white and a few warm flecks. Close up it looks like cracked ice; from a few metres the patches merge into calm water with a glinting reflection under the hull.

Is IA#087 a print or an original painting?

An original. IA#087 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of IA#087 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
