About this painting

A single snow peak, sharp as a blade along its right edge, stands in drifting cloud at the top of the canvas, its shaded face cut in grey and slate. Below it the valley opens in two greens: bright spring green on the sunlit right slope, dark forest green and charcoal on the left.

A white river drops over a short waterfall and winds off to the bottom left. Cloud and snow fill nearly half the picture, swept in pale strokes so the mountain seems to come and go in mist. On the slopes the strokes follow the fall of the land, giving the smooth paint a sense of steepness.
