About this painting

Pink roses climb a tall, narrow canvas in a loose column, from small pale buds near the top to deeper raspberry blooms low down, where thin brown branches spring from the bottom edge.

Each flower is a few quick twists of pink and white around a yellow-gold heart, and the leaves are dabs of sage, lime and blue-grey rather than drawn shapes. The ground is barely there: washes of sky blue at the top, lilac and white in the middle, a cream glow near the base. Open space on both sides lets the column stand clear.

Why are the darkest roses at the bottom of IA#850?
