A large orange flower explodes from the middle of the picture, its long knife-stroke petals splayed around a dark navy heart. Crimson and scarlet blooms crowd above it, and flashes of yellow and peach flare off to the upper right against a pale lilac sky.

Below the flowers the picture comes apart. White, cobalt and violet dabs gather where a vase might stand, then run downward in streaks and drips of turquoise and teal over a pale cream ground. The heat is all at the top and the cool colour all at the bottom, with the heaviest paint in the petals.
