About this painting

Two great arcs of gold, black and silver-grey ribbon bow towards each other from opposite sides and almost touch in the middle, pinching the canvas into an hourglass. Each arc is built from parallel strands, black outlines with gold and grey between them, moving like stirred liquid metal. Smaller oval loops spiral at lower right and bottom centre.

The finish is smooth and glossy, so depth comes from shading inside each ribbon, white highlights on the grey and dark edges on the gold, not from built-up paint. A splash of white spatter at the top right is the one loose mark.
