About this painting

Two agate slices face each other across a channel of glossy black, one rising from the lower left and one tucked into the upper right, their hearts packed with silver-white crystal that glitters under light. Each is ringed in bands: a crust of gold granules, a ribbon of pure white, then fine gold lines that follow the curve outward into the dark.

Crystal beds and gold crusts stand proud of the canvas while the black stays smooth, so the contrast is one of texture as much as colour. A small wedge of cream at the top centre is the only pale gap in the field.
