Deep green and gold sweep relief canvas painting

A broad band of deep green sweeps through a white plaster ground, flanked along two edges by folded copper-tan forms that look like a leaf sheath peeling back. The green is laid in long combed strokes that follow the direction of the sweep, and at one end it breaks into a notched, ragged tip like a snapped branch.

The copper-tan folds are smoother and carry soft highlights along each crease, making them the warmest, most light-catching part of the canvas. Around them the white ground is left in short visible trowel strokes, enough to give it grain without competing with the green.
