Sand dune curve with raised chips plaster wall art

A smooth slope of pale sand curves down the left side of the canvas, and against it runs a chalk-white ridge, gritty and pitted like weathered sandstone. To the right, a wedge of dusky mauve-taupe is packed with tiny raised splinters set at every angle, like driftwood twigs stranded at the tideline.

Texture does the work that colour does elsewhere. The left half is dragged smooth in fine streaks, the white ridge and the lumpy outcrop at the lower right are built up in sandy plaster, and the splinter cluster stands highest of all. No horizon, no sky: only ground, seen close.

All its weight sits on the right edge, so as half of a pair it belongs on the left, with the dark cluster facing inward.
